Dog Walking

I'm back to work in a few weeks and will need a dog walker. I have advertised in the local shop, and a sensible 14 year old has applied for the job. I just wondered whether there are any regulations / laws regarding under 16s walking dogs?
Any other tips / advice welcome!
Thanks

I am not entirely sure, but I think legally it should be 16 or over.

For me, it would depend on what type of dog you had. I would never let a 14yr old walk my dogs, because they are GSDs and although well behaved I doubt they would know how to handle my dogs or in fact be able to hold all 60+kg of them.

There is no legal restriction on age, as far as I'm aware.

I suppose it depends on what breed of dog you have but there is no way that anyone would be walking my dog who wasn't experienced, insured and CRB checked (they have a key and are coming into my house when I'm not there).

What happens if the dog gets knocked down when in the care of the walker? Or attacks another dog? Is attacked by another dog? Bites someone? Not sure I'd trust a 14 year old (however sensible) and I'd be looking for someone who does is for a living with all the appropriate insurance etc in place. But then my view might be coloured by the type of dogs I have. Maybe it would be different if I only had a little CKCS or similar small, friendly breed that just needed a quick trip around the block on lead.

We have a lovely dog walker. She is fully insured and got us to fill in a client information sheet before she would walk our dogs. I think a formal arrangement like this is for the best tbh

My little CKCS has done six miles at the beach today- she would be most put out at a quick trip around the block Grin

Oops, just noticed there's a missing 'or' in my post...'or that just needed a quick trip around the block'.

Just can't imagine a 14 year old handling my 2 dogs at 50kg+ each. Actually, there aren't many people I can imagine even wanting to try!
