Got my greyhound three years ago, she's very well socialised, gets on with every dog she's ever met and we walk every day in a big group of dogs off the lead. We have only been walking with this group of dogs since Sept/Oct but there haven't been any problems until today. Previous to this group of dogs she walked with a different group of dogs no problems.
So all dogs off the leads today, there's a different dog that we'd not met before that came today. But the other dogs have met this new dog before and one of the other dog owners said the new dog is fine with other dogs.
There's always a lot of general boistorus play flighting, wrestling, growling, jumping on each other that goes on but my dog tends to keep out of that. Today the new dog did that to one of the other dogs, my dog and another joined in. Dog that was getting picked on starts screeching so we pull the dogs off. It seemed like a bit of rough playing that went too far so I didn't think much of it.
5 minutes later it happened again but much worse. Again new dog seemed to start it, same dog getting picked on and its on its back on the floor - my dog and another join in. My dog had this dogs leg and then side in her mouth and was really shaking the dog. Got her off and thankfully the other dog wasn't hurt - now whether this is because my dog didn't mean to hurt her or whetehr its because she doesn't have many teeth I'm not sure.
I put her back on the lead then. 20 minutes later the new dog and ownder turn back so everyone says to me to take mine off her lead. 10 minutes later she tried to go for this dog again, growled and lunged at her so I put her back o nthe lead and kept her on. Then for the rest of the walk she's tail wagging at the other dogs inc the one she'd attacked.
Its totally out of character for her, I'd never have believed she'd do anything like this. I'm going to muzzle her when we go out tomorrow. Do you think as long as this new dog doesn't come back she's likely to be OK?
