Moving with dogs

Right, so, we're moving in about 8 weeks. I think I'll board Jasper overnight, so that I don't have to worry about what he's up to the day we move. Am I right in thinking he'll be unsettled when we bring him to the new house? He's house trained now, but is that likely to regress? Any tips on settling him in gladly recieved.

I actually think he'll be fine. We used to socialise Hearing Dogs and they didn't really bat an eyelid about turning up at a new house. It took them a while to relax around us, but you won't have that issue as he already knows you :)

Maybe just show him the wee spot as soon as he arrives and treat him when he goes. It could also be an opportunity to change anything about his current routine that you don't really like, e.g restricting access to places. Dogs seem to take most things in their stride IMHO - as long as they are safe in the moment I don't think they worry about things too much.

We took our dog to the in-laws for the moving day, she sleeps on a dog-bed in a big cage, we relocated the cage to under the stairs in the new house and as soon as she saw her bed she went to lie on it while we faffed around.

We'd taken her to the new house while it was still empty, she had a good sniff around everywhere then went to do her business in the garden, like she'd always lived there. I suppose it meant when she moved there properly she'd already scent-marked her territory.

Dogs are far less dramatic than ppl, within a couple of days it was as if nothing had changed.

We moved house with two boxers, keep them in old house until all furniture moved then walked them to tire them out then drove over to new house. Kept excitement to a minimum, let them look round everywhere, walked round the new back garden (quite big) and they have been fine.
We are now in a bungalow so had to teach 'no paws over the line' as they are not allowed in the bedrooms.
