Any tips on how to stop my dogs 'shouting' at each other?

Or more precisely how to stop my hounds shouting at each other? Mainly the greyhound?

For once it is not my terrier causing the problem Shock

The whippet has a crate. The greyhound wants it. The whippet does not want to give it up. It is not the only bed in the rear of the house, which is where they are kept during the day as it is generally where I am. There is also a bed under the desk and a big blanket in front of the radiator i.e a bed each. Also the grey is the only dog we have who is allowed unsupervised in the living room so she also has access to the sofa and the other bed under the other desk. She wants the crate. The terrier's crate is always empty but she does not want that one, of course.

She barks incessantly loudly at the sleeping whippet until the whippet gives up and lets her in, but recently the whippet has been standing her ground longer, meaning the barking goes on longer. She has a speak command and will quiet on command during training but not while she is shouting for the bed. Even my fail safe "ENOUGH" fails to get her to stop for more than 30 seconds.

I have no space for a third crate.

NB: They are hounds ergo they are not the brightest buttons in the box but they will work for food or anything remotely edible inc plain flour, paper and empty cereal boxes.

My two recent additions just wouldn't be convinced to ignore the gerbils (safe in a glass tank) and the barking was driving us mad. Eventually, I went out and got a water pistol. I thought this might be a bit mean, but actually, I only had to use it a few times and the problem has totally gone.

Very occasionally now my yorkie tries having a yap at the tank and I just pick up the water pistol but he hears me pick it up and skulks away immediately so I don't even have to squirt him! He doesn't hate me for it. In fact he usually comes straight to me for a cuddle and he's the most loving dog you could wish to meet.

Oh and just to add... It was so much nicer not to have to try and shout commands over the noise of their barking.. silent but VERY effective! lol!
