Wondering if anyone has one and can give some info?

They seem to be fairly rare?

I saw some Sussex Spaniels when I took my son to the Discover Dogs exhibition. What lovely dogs! I asked the owners about them and whether they would be a suitable pet for a family in leafy London suburbs. They explained that the Sussex has a lovely temperament but is still very much a working dog. Any owner would have to be prepared to "work" the dog or they risked ending up with a nightmare! It may be worthwhile checking out whether anyone in your area does gun dog training, etc.?

I absolutely love them. Seven years ago we were hoping to add a Sussex Spaniel to our family but reputable breeders would not sell to us as we had small children (apparently they can be unpredictable) and because we would not be 'working' the dog.

So we settled for a Cocker Spaniel. Luck had it that we had first choice of the boys in the litter (after waiting for what seemed like ages on a waiting list after being vetter) and the most laid back puppy was a chocolate brown one. I still think it was fate...
(Sadly the gorgeous Dill died three days before his fifth birthday after an accident)

My dog groomer has two and seems to be an expert...look at www.dirtydogz.co.uk. She's in ChichesterSmile

I hadn't heard about then being unsuitable for small children, from what I have read, it seemed the opposite. Or boys will be 18mo, 4 and 7 when we hope to get one. My husband is used to working sprinters, we got the impression these are like a toned down version! Plus they look like teddy bears Grin
