I'm so sorry. Sad

candytuft63 · 25/01/2012 15:57

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for you.
Its horrible.
Sad

Poledra · 25/01/2012 15:57

I'm so sorry - I can still remember the day mum and I had to go and have our dog put down, 25 years ago. It's hard.

Hollyfoot · 25/01/2012 16:04

Thank you for the kind words everyone. She had a tumour in her sinuses diagnosed in April and did really well after surgery. It recurred in December and they were hopefully that she would have a similar length of time after this surgery, but it wasnt to be. We got up this morning to find her face and muzzle really swollen. There was nothing more to be done for her so we had to let her go. It truly was the hardest thing I've ever done. She was a beautiful blonde labrador, gentle, loving and intelligent.

She sounds wonderful. Horrible time for you

moosemama · 25/01/2012 16:10

I am so sorry.

She sounds like a lovely special girl.

louby86 · 25/01/2012 16:16

So sorry to hear your news Sad

wildfig · 25/01/2012 18:25

So sorry - it's a heartbreaking thing to have to do.

TwoIfBySea · 25/01/2012 18:32

Ah Hollyfoot, it is a horrible thing to have to do but know that you gave her peace after a life where she was obviously loved. No dog asks for more than to be a happy part of the family.

Hugs to you all.

NoWayNoHow · 25/01/2012 18:34

I'm so sorry, it's such a hard thing to do, but she won't be in pain any more. Our lovely chow/labrador also had cancer (stomach) and we had to make the awful decision when he just spiralled downhill one weekend (couldn't drink, eat, even move).

You'll always have the memories and photos, and they will never leave you. Big hugs.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/01/2012 18:38

So very sorry. It hurts like the worst thing ever for a while, but the cliche of time helping to heal is true. There is another sad story on DH and lots of lovely advice on coping and letting the grief out.

Thinking of you.

Hollyfoot · 25/01/2012 21:24

Thank you everyone. Tough but part of owning a pet I suppose. Although she felt like a whole lot more than a pet Sad

I've just lost my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier to nasal cancer Sad
She went to heaven on Friday. Sad
I am so sorry for your loss, it's the most heartbreaking thing to do.
I've found everyone on here to be wonderful and supportive, they've almost been through it with me. It's been a great help, especially as I can give a virtual scream when I'm on here.
The gap will never be filled but our memories will be with us to treasure forever xx

Hollyfoot · 25/01/2012 21:35

Mmm so sorry to hear of your loss MummyNic. I think we are a bit numb right now, but the sadness will come Sad

winterreise · 25/01/2012 21:37

So so sorry. I lost a retriever to an unbelievably aggressive mouth cancer. I got a new dog quite quickly as I couldn't bear the emptiness.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/01/2012 21:38

Really sorry to hear that hon x big hugs x it's always so hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet x

moosemama · 25/01/2012 21:41

Just noticed MummyNic's post. I am so sorry to hear that, I've not been in the Doghouse for quite a while. I lost my SCWT girl a year ago to oral cancer. Sad

Hollyfoot, as MummNic so rightly says, you will never fill the gap, but you will have so many happy memories to treasure and eventually you will be able to smile when you remember your girl.

hellymelly · 25/01/2012 21:48

I'm so sorry. It is awful losing a friend.Am dreading it being time with my elderly and infirm dog.

MummyNic · 25/01/2012 21:51

Lovely to meet another owner of SCWT, amazing dogs, how can we ever fill the void?
For now I am just trying to cope with the emptiness of our home. Really thought DS would prevent a lot of grief, but he hasn't, it's worse than I could ever imagine.

At least our dear dogs are no longer in pain / discomfort, that is the last act of love we could show them Sad

moosemama · 26/01/2012 09:12

Yes they are MummyNic. I don't think I could ever have another though, it just wouldn't feel right. We have two other dogs and 3 dcs that keep us on our toes, but she's still sorely missed.

Both yourself and Hollyfoot will be in my thoughts. x

Latsia · 26/01/2012 09:19

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Hollyfoot. It's so awful. I lost my cat on Tuesday but also know the pain of the loss of a canine friend.

I would second what MummyNic said, lots of posters have been so lovely and supportive and I have found it a real help.

It's hard. X

horsemadmom · 26/01/2012 10:29

Hugs to you. Give yourself time to grieve. We lost our Goldie in September and it was awful- just walking through the front door hurt. We are always here to support you for as long as you need us.

ditavonteesed · 26/01/2012 18:02

so sorry Sad

bumpybecky · 26/01/2012 21:23

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

our lovely dog was put to sleep almost exactly a year ago. I know how horrible it is. I'd never lost anyone close to me before and it was so hard. I know it's such a cliché, but the pain does lessen with time. Be kind to yourself in the coming weeks xx
