300g packet of chicken fillets a few days out of date. They smelt a bit sweet but not metallicy. Put them in the bin, halfway down. He's only a small-medium terrier so I have no idea how he got it but 5 mins later the pack is in the hall and empty!

Do I give him anything? Wait and see? Vet?

They probably weren't off at all. Sweet smell is natural. Unless they were slimy and really honked they would be fine. I d say the only issue is the general issue of raw chicken.

What a waste :(

fishie · 05/01/2012 21:23

he'll be fine. better than tinned dog food.

Catsmamma · 05/01/2012 21:25

they eat their own crap.....i am sure he'll be fine!

only thing i'd worry about would be an over indulgence barf all over the rug!

lots of people advocate a raw food diet as being the best for dogs anyway so don't panic! Google raw food for dogs if you are still worried. Raw chicken wings are usally preferred. I would do it ifmy freezer was big enough Grin

The dog digestive system is a lot less sensitive than the human. If he becomes ill, phone the vet. Am pretty sure he will be fine. He was recycling!!

Our dogs are on a raw diet and regularly have meat that's past it's sell by date with absolutely no ill effects at all.

Don't worry about it - raw food is actually much better for dogs than 'dog food' anyway (think MacDonalds vs home-cooked for humans).

Thank you so much everybody for putting my mind at rest. He hasn't been sick or anything, he;s fast asleep in his bed now.

Got to be better than my dog's penchant for a tub of 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter' (highly dangerous, no idea how she hasn't needed treatment, the sick is not pleasant though)

4 advent calendars

Licking a Calpol spoon!!!

Eating own poo (bleurgh)

'Cleaning' the kitten's litter tray.

Seriously - why are dogs so revolting!!???

My mum's dog once stole 12 frozen chicken fillets, my nan had left defrosting. He'd taken them 1 by 1 into the garden and those he hadn't gnawed, he had half buried around the garden!

He was fine btw - reckon he ate 4 of them.

Oh and then there was the time he got hold of my purse, chewed the purse and I found it, freaked (had £100 cash in it) nearly fainted at loss of money. Mum was clearing his bed a few days later and found the money tucked under his blanket (saving for a rainy day?).
