Dog needs a walk - still pissing down - I don't mind but two DS' looking at me very reluctantly - dog will love it and park will be empty !

Digging out all the waterproofs !

Anyone been out ?

Mine will hate it and cower so unless it dies down we're staying in, he's elderly though so not going out isn't an issue. When he was younger I would've had to take him to blast some energy out of him.

Avantia · 03/01/2012 12:19

I have a 18 month lab so needs must ...

My supposedly high energy all-weather gun dog took one look out of the back door and went back to lie on the sofa with the cats. On days like this I feel very lucky to have a dog who hates rain even more than I do!

hellhasnofury · 03/01/2012 12:30

OP you have my sympathies, at 18 months he'd have eaten my house if he'd been kept in. Now he's old he's taken one look out the back door and taken himself off to bed. He is currently upside down on the bed and snoring his head off.

EdlessAllenPoe · 03/01/2012 12:47

the Hound of Poe wagged her tail to get out, leapt out excitedly...and was back at the door in under 15 seconds.

i have put the children in nice things, knowing they aren't going outside, though i may venture for a desultory 5 minutes just so dog thinks she has been walked. She seems quite happy in bed for the moment though...

Beamur · 03/01/2012 12:49

DP walked the dog as usual. Managed to find a window in the rain so not too bedraggled by the time they got back.

PersonalClown · 03/01/2012 12:51

Hahahahahaha yeah right!
I have a 2 year old water phobic staffy and probably the world's laziest Labradoodle (18 months).

Both have given me a look of 'Who the hell do you think you're kidding? I'm not moving'

UptownAbbie · 03/01/2012 12:53

Just taken my 16 month lab out, kept putting it off but he was climbing the walls so decided just a quick half hour...which turned into 90 minutes. He loved it, gets very skittish in the wind and rain, went for a swim in the river, as if he wasn't wet enough, and we both came home covered in mud. Now need to summon up the strength to clean him up, and mop all the downstairs floors.

bemybebe · 03/01/2012 12:59

I have an 18mo lab who hated it this morning and run straight back home to the door. It is getting clear now, so we will go out later.

Avantia · 03/01/2012 13:08

A bit of a break in the weather - heading off- maybe some time !

I think we caught the eye of the storm and managed an hour without being blown about too much (although did end up in an argument with another dog owner but that's another thread...).

I have to say on days like today I do hanker after a whippet and not the water adoring Lab who is looking at me now sending the mind vibes to go back out again.

PresidentWensleydale · 03/01/2012 13:54

I went out first thing with my lab, live right by the beach and the tide was just going out. He had great fun whereas I have sand in my ears and up my nose.
Very windy but managable still , dh will have to take him out tonight though as i've had a haircut :)

Santasjollys · 03/01/2012 13:56

Mine have just run into the garden, done what they need, and bolted back in and snuggled next to the radiator Grin they hate rain, never mind the gales.

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 03/01/2012 14:09

Rain stopped here for an hour, so he got an on lead walk. There is enough mud to contend with currently without letting him off lead

minimuu · 03/01/2012 14:10

I want some fair weathered dogs

Mine love this weather and seem to chase the wind Grin

Santasjollys · 03/01/2012 14:11

Have mine, although one of them really needs a tic tak Grin.

FestiveFriedaWassailsAgain · 03/01/2012 14:14

I am about to take ours out. 8mo Border Collie so no choice really! Old dog not interested, she doesn't do wet

TooManyButtons · 03/01/2012 14:17

I let my tiny little Yorkie outside earlier and he promptly got blown down the garden path like a little grey feather Grin.

No Xmas Shock

dh did though Xmas Grin

belindarose · 03/01/2012 14:48

DD has fallen asleep in the only break in the weather we've had, so DH will have to do a dark lead walk when he's back from work. The 8 month old springer is happily sleeping!

Inthepotty · 03/01/2012 14:49

Still blowing a gale here (up North)! Took scruffy pup to my mums with the intention of walking him with her whippets. Her dogs looked at me like I'd gone mad (have you seeeeeen my silky soft fur and delicate little legs??! No chance love!!) and convinced my boy to relax by the fire whilst I drank tea and the DCs made Grandma play 'shops' with them... Bliss.

ObviouslyOblivious · 03/01/2012 15:18

We're on holiday in Suffolk so we did a 90 minute walk on the footpaths. I was either struggling to walk into the wind on the muddy paths or beig pushed along by it! It wasn't too rainy but of course we got drenched in the last 15 minutes. Should've gone that little bit earlier :o

Onlyaphase · 03/01/2012 15:24

My sympathies to those with young labs who need walking today. DH has just reminded me that when our labs were younger we used to love weather like this as the park would be empty of disapproving dog owners with well behaved dogs, so we would race out and have a good run around without people looking at our badly behaved dogs.

Today they are older and wiser and have chased each other round the garden a few times and are now curled up by the fire with a peanut butter stuffed kong each. All happy!
