today was D Day and oh dear---failure

Mylo was allowed out today. First time after vaccinations and he would not budge. He sat on his bum and wouldn't walk as l stood in the pouring rain trying to coax him to move. My neighbour said it was better than the TV this CHristmas, He is now 11 weeks old cocker spaniel.
I eventually lifted him and took him to some parkland but he would not do pees or poos (stupid bloody words but couldn't think of anything else). I took him home and he peed in the garden immediatly,
Any ideas on how to get him to walk on the lead or does it just take time?
Puppy classes start in January but l don't want to be left till then to get things started.

Maybe he didn't like the look of the rain anymore than you did? I would keep doing it as part of his regular routine and make the destination a nice interesting place with lots of cuddles, treats and security.

Oh poor little mite. Why on earth would he want to go outside in that wet stuff when he could be inside and be made a big fuss of?? Sensible if you ask me!

Like children, they respond well to bribery and treats - fill a little bag and put it in your pocket - I'm sure he'll be happy to go out with you! :)

Our beagle puppy was very hard to take out for about the first 6 weeks. She just sat down and refused to move. We resorted to taking her favourite cuddly toy with us and dangling it in front of her nose! She also crossed her legs all the way round and then went in the garden when we got home - she is now 8 months old and has grwon out of all that. Just give it time and keep taking him out - he will get more confidant and start to enjoy it more.

Our cocker did exactly this when we put her down to walk for the first time. It took her quite a while to start enjoying her walks, and she would always run back to the car at the end of the walk. She loves her walks now, but she still does this.

Just give it time, and keep the walks very short to start with.

Carry puppy a short distance in sight of your door and let him run home on the lead, repeat until this is fun and you can go for a walk home a longer distance. Eventually walk a very short distance away from home when you put him down and then turn and go back. This is how I train my puppies at 6 to 8 weeks old before they go to their new homes, it is a simple and fun way to teach pups to enjoy being outside. They do vary with some prepared to go away from home within a couple of days and others taking much longer, but they all get there eventually.

I'd completely forgotten this but our cockapoo (now 9mo) used to do this, back in the summer. Only poo'd in the garden bushes and it was a good few weeks before he twigged that his walk was a good place to do it - loads of treats helped. Ditto weeing.
During the hot spell we had, he used to sit down firmly and refuse to move at all - and if he did get as far as the end of the road, he'd turn round at the first opportunity and leg it back home.
It didn't last for long. There'll come a time when you'll think back longingly to this!
But even now he doesn't fancy going out in the rain.

Our dog still won't go out if it is raining, just quick trip under the bushes in the garden. She doesn't do inclement weather.

I have seen her go out in the garden and then wee under the bench next to the door so as not to get wet. Spoiled brat.

She also took a while to get used to the lead and would walk for about 5 mins then sit down.

Do a little walk every day, and he will soon realise that walks are fun. And let him stay home when it is cold and wet.
