how do i get a dog to do his business on walks?

i always go out armed with poo-bags. i think for the last year i have used maybe 6 on a walk

in the summer he would be out with us all day on walks/picnics and not once would he poo or wee whilst out.

now he does do the odd wee when out, but 9/10 he will comes back to the house and demand to do his business in the garden

i am fed up with it. our walks take us on some lovely areas and we pass many poo-bins but never actually use them.

why why why?

I guess you could go back to basics and teach him a command word, so he goes when you tell him to.

I had a dog as a kid that did this, and it was because my dad had yelled at him for going in the garage as a puppy. Poor dog would only go in absolute private after that.
