Kennel cough vax

I took my 8mo puppy to be vaccinated against kennel cough last Friday, as SIL's dog has it and although they'd not been together since he'd come down with it, they would have been in the next few weeks.
But mine has started coughing today, as if he's got something stuck in his throat. He's also been off his food.
Is there any chance this could be a side-effect of the jab? Or might he have contracted it from another source before he had it?
And what should I do about it?

Kennel cough is really easy to pass on it can be carried on people's clothes etc. The vaccination can sometimes cause mild symptoms usually in the first 72 hours. There are two viruses and 1 bacteria causing kennel cough the KC vacc does the bacteria and one of the viruses is often covered in the regular vacc (not all companies), but that still leaves 1 virus not covered.

Hmm, well we're beyond 72 hours...

thunderbolt do let us know what your vet says. I just called mine and she (the receptionist) said they can develop a transient cough at around 5 days after the jab (which is actually a syringe of fluid up the nose!) but that it is rare. If it is that, he'll recover after about 24 hours but, if he deteriorates, to take him down.
It'd be interesting to know if yours says the same thing.

lizcat I knew it was highly contagious, but I didn't know about carrying it around on clothes. And I've seen SIL's dog since he's had it, but obviously didn't take Monty with me.

Highly contagious very easily spread if we have a case in the surgery disinfect the whole place change our clothes - if unable to change clothes spray disinfectant over whole clothing. If you saw your SIL dog there is a very high chance you brought it home with you incubation period is 7 to 10 days.
