Hi, my dog suffers from nervous aggression and has an issue with any dog which comes near him. We keep him away from other dogs and muzzle him if there are other dogs nearby off their leads.

When I first take him out, he is all hyper, but normally ok with people, soft as anything. However sometimes he takes a dislike to people, and barks at them. He has been getting better with ppl lately.

Today I was walking along the path, and a man in his 60/70's was approaching and not walking well. Looked like he had trouble with his legs. My dog walked past him, and lunged and snapped at him without warning. The man walked past me, shouting swear words and holding his leg. His limp was much more pronounced.

I was concerned and asked if he was ok, but he would not stop, just kept on walking looking back and swearing again. I shouted again asking if he was ok, but he just glared and walked off.

I am terrified my dog has hurt him. I am not sure if he could have bit him enough to cause the way he was limping or whether it was the impact of the dog knocking against his ?already bad legs. He had thick trousers on and the dog seemed to snap rather than bite

There is no excuse and I am horrified by the actions of the dog. I am just worried he has bitten the man and injured him. I wished he had stopped, instead of walking off.

From now on, I will muzzle him the minute he leaves the house and keep away from people. If he really bit someone badly I would have him put down :( as I would not take the risk with it happening to anyone else.

Thanks for reading. I just need to get it off my chest.

We have planned to take him to a behaviourist but it will need to wait, as DH has just been made redundant :(. All this seems to date back to when he was a puppy and a dog jumped a garden fence and tried to savage him..

We will just muzzle him and try and walk him when it is quiet. Now I have calmed down, I don't think that our dog made contact with his teeth, more of a knock to leg. Mind you, that is bad enough. I will keep an eye out for the man.

I posted a thread recently asking for help wrt nervous aggression towards other dogs. Minimuu wrote a very helpful clicker training program to move towards getting the dog to walk past without reacting. I got a clicker from the pet shop for about £2, so it might be a good start for you too. Have a look at the thread (am too inept to link it.... sorry Blush
