No contact from Breeder after phone call and email...re: PJR re-homing.

Hi,
I called a breeder and had a long chat about re-homing one of her 3yr (bitch) Parson's, she's had 2 litters and has been shown. I came away from the telephone call feeling very positive about it all. Breeder said I could come and meet / visit the Parson's. I told her I would speak with DH and follow it with an email within 24hrs. She (breeder) was very happy with that and said I was quite right to have a good chat with DH and would wait for my email. Since emailing her, I've not heard back at all that was 2 weeks ago.

What should I do? Drop her a quick text and asked if she got my email or just leave it? A friend told me not to brother following up, as I made it quite clear that I was going to email her.

I don't want to write it off, but I can't help in thinking that it's all a bit iffy maybe she's just not good at emails!?! {wishful thinking} or she'd rather keep the dog.

Any advice would be ace, thank you.

I hope she hasn't changed her mind about re-homing her {clearly selfish of me, i know}

She's gone, someone came 2 days after I called and they told her home that day. Older couple with no children. Breeder was embarrassed about not emailing back. But said she wasn't 100% happy with the bitch and children so didn't think we were the right family. Shame she didn't mention it on the phone, but at least she was honest.

However they have puppies, 3 weeks old and ready in Jan. 600 quid for a bitch. Going to send me pictures.

Have followed up with an email already. She's got a bitch left but also a few dogs..not sure which i'd rather have? Will speak with DH once he's home!

DD will be 11 months if this works out, so hard work on both counts but at least they will grow up together. Will speak again with a friend who's got a PJR and children to see if she thinks i'm mad

Ruby, reputable rescues will ensure that a dog going to a home with children will have been assessed and many will already have been fostered with children, or come from a child owning house. Often relinquishment is not the fault of the dog but due to marital breakdown, relocation, emigration etc. Buying a pup does not guarantee a problem free life.

Scarlett, I recall you saying a little while ago that you wanted to avoid a puppy since you didn't feel able to commit to the time required for training, etc. Have you changed your mind/circumstances?

Also, has breeder discussed health issues/testing with you?

If you're not sure about a pup, but definitely want a particular breed, then getting an older dog from a breeder (as you were trying to do in the first place) really is a good idea. You may have to wait a bit for the right one of course, but it could be worth the wait.

scuttle you are quite right I did say that..DD will be starting nursery in the new year so I'll have more time to give to a puppy. Also with that breed I just feel having 'it' from a pup would be better.

However I'm still very happy to take an older dog if i can find the right dog. This will be a forever home, so feel it's very important that I make sure I look into every option fully. Making a visit to the Dogs Trust down the road to take a look what what they have and chat about getting maybe a rescue dog.

Where are you? My sister has a PJR that they got as a pup. He's deaf and even with that he is fab with the kids. I love them!
