I know it's totally our fault, this situation, but we need to rectify it before our visitors come over for Xmas in 2 weeks!
The dog has never been allowed on the sofa, and to be honest, I don't think it had ever occurred to her to go up onto it - we live in a hot country and she seems to prefer stretching out on the cool tiles to sleep.
But one day when we both had raging hangovers were feeling a bit under the weather we let her up onto the sofa for a cuddle. With hindsight this was a massive mistake, as she has basically taken over this sofa now and goes up there at every opportunity, and it gives her new access to the Xmas tree and provides a useful vantage point for stealing Xmas decs and things we had hidden on the console table out of her way. Even if you are lying on the sofa, she will jump on top of you and at 20kg this is NOT pleasant!
When our visitors come for Xmas, we can't have her up there - we need every space on the sofa ourselves, we don't want her climbing over the visitors and it's gross now it's getting covered in dog hair.
So, how do we undo this? I totally understand that it's entirely our fault for letting her up there and I feel bad that the poor dog has had a taste of it now! Even now as I type she is lying on 'her' sofa giving me the big eyes! I have taught her the 'off' command using 'touch', but she gets back on there just as soon as she comes off.....
