his arse end is just repulsive. Anal-gland-ish I suppose but don't think they are blocked. Not a sudden empty over the soft furnishings either but just a general stench emanating from him. It is truly disgusting and getting worse.

He is an aging collie.

What can be done?

My elderly sheep dog is the same, we keep her groomed and her hair cut v short, it helps a bit,

Sympathies. We have an aged GSD and the house is rank whenever he has been shut indoors, but he can't stay outside ALL day! He also has taken to having a fair few accidents if we don't watch him like a hawk :(

is there such thing as a dog deodoriser spray? or should i shake a few drops of lavender over him?

Put grated carrot in his food to help bulk out his poo and squeeze the glands. Rubbing ketchup into poo smell and then washing out is supposed to neutralise the smell.
