My beautiful Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is 12.5. She's developed a breathing problem. Short version is that she's got a tumour in her nasal passage / throat. Our vet too X-rays and had a look but couldn't remove due to position of lump. She's been referred to specialist.
She got worse over weekend, nearly choking on Sat night.
Admitted by specialist today. I thought they'd say "yep, will remove lump tomorrow".. But instead are doing CT scan in head & down to lungs. Will take biopsy. Once results are known it'll either be chemo or remove lump (if able).
Shit, I can't believe my, otherwise healthy & happy, darling girl might actually die. It's horrendous. She's still happy, eating (but having to munch up more) and drinking, yet this proxy lump, even if not cancer, might be the end of her.
I can't stop crying. I'm not ready to lose her.
Apart from the choking / snorting she's ok. Her throat is sore as she can't breathe through nose :(
Anyone had a similar lump in a dog? My heart is breaking and my home feels empty without her.

hope she is ok, xxx (hugs)

Poor you. Let's hope they can help. My cat had an abdo tumour but one week of the supposedly gentle chemo had halved it. In the meantime she is lucky to have you and we are all thinking of you.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 24/11/2011 10:27

Elibean · 24/11/2011 12:27

My princess is home... For now...
CT scan shows no masses on lymph nodes or lungs Grin
But mass is mahoosive Sad
Several biopsies have been taken, results will be in tomorrow or Monday. She's provisionally booked in to have mass removed next Wednesday. They are waiting for results to know exactly what they are dealing with and if they should just cut the lump off or remove the core as well (which is also big and is embedded in the soft palette).
She's very tired at the moment. Have put some fresh meat in her bowl with liquid pain killer but she's not even looked at it.
Trying to to smother her with cuddles as I'm sure it the last thing she wants but I keep checking her.
Thank you for your prayers... Need more please Sad

I'm sorry to hear the mass is so big, but glad at least that there is nothing on lymph nodes or lungs. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her. Good luck for the results.

MummyNic · 24/11/2011 21:46

Thank you Smile
Specialist said it could be cancer but could be a benign version Hmm
She also said it may be really slow growing so if they can't get it all, chances are she'll die of old age before she gets in this state again. Fingers & toes crossed.
No use speculating now I guess Confused

Thanks again for your support. Grin
