I read your mind. It's the Supernanny equivalent for dog owners - makes you feel like a far better owner!

misdee · 22/11/2011 14:31

my heart stopped when the deer reached the busy road.

but yp feel a lot better about Ralphs appaulling recall when distracted.

Idiot owner letting his dog off lead near the deer.

Even Daphne's recall is not that bad.

Slubberdegullion · 22/11/2011 19:02

Saw this linked to on twitter yesterday, with lots saying it was hilarious Hmm

Made my blood run cold with the deer and the dog headed towards that road. Are those deer owned by someone (? the Queen) if so could the dog be shot for livestock worrying?

I would put quite a lot of money on my dog having an A1 recall but never in a million years would I let her off lead in a park full of deer. That lab was 'in the zone' in full chase mode. Not even Jesus Christ could have got him to recall at that moment.

Elibean · 22/11/2011 19:15

deer (red deer, at least) can kill dogs - I remember my last dog, as a young 'un, suddenly coming across a mother deer in the bracken in a London park: he thought it would be great fun to play with her, she gave him a massive kick - she had fawns nearby. Luckily he was only bruised.

Avantia · 22/11/2011 19:35

Blimey ! No point calling the dog back when totally zoned in on the deer.

Having had an experince with my dog chasing two deer who suddenly popped out of bracken then I feel for owner in a way - but there seemed alot of deer about that it didn't appear that he was taken by surprise.

It could happen to any of us and I think that saying it won't we are fooling ourselves.

Avantia · 22/11/2011 19:40

On the other hand if I hear Benton evey being called I will get my lab back on her lead asap ! Never know what is heading round the corner !

lisad123 · 22/11/2011 19:41

Have to say it brought back horrible memory of Thornton and the horses earlier this year Sad should say thorntons been around horses for a longtime, and is normally scarcest witless, and had him on long lead trailing which normally means 100% recall (as he doesn't understand length, so assumes I still have hold), but he sadly got a kick to the head and ended up with staples!!
Dogs are after all, animals and feel quite sorry for the man, he must have been terrified!!
Wonder if it's a puppy

Avantia · 23/11/2011 18:31

Its going to be on BBC London news tonight - might find out what happend in the end .

Abra1d · 23/11/2011 18:37

I know Richmond Park well. You can't always see the deer; they are well camouflaged in the bracken, etc. It is easy to let a dog off and then realize that the deer are there after all. It only takes a second's lack of concentration.

Avantia · 23/11/2011 18:48

The stags at the moment are just laying around in the long grass - suddenly you can come upon one when it pops his head up.

misdee · 23/11/2011 19:45

what did they say on bbc news?

OP posts:
Avantia · 23/11/2011 20:20

just interviewed the dad of the 13yr old boy who filmed it - saying that hits went up yesterday on the you tube site and that he had enquires from CNBC or CNN.

Interviewed warden at Richmond Park - said it was not common to chase deer like this to that extent. interview with dog trainer - no trace of Benton or Fenton and owner to give interview . Grin

Apparently 6 deer a year are killed by dogs - I assume that was in Richmond Park it self .

CalamityKate · 24/11/2011 20:30

Slubber - I'm glad I'm not the only one who failed to see the hilarious side! I was saying on the other thread on here about Benton that everyone but me on FB seems to think it's highly amusing. All I could think of was the deer and that road and cars, and broken legs...
