Just left my precious dog at the vets.

I've just left my lovely youngest dog at the vets on a drip, after he ate about an eighth of the Christmas cake that my mum had made last night.

It had been left right at the back of the work surface, behind the kettle, so he showed great initiative in stealing it Sad

The drugs given to make him vomit seemed to work well, but I left him on the drip to be better safe than sorry.

Please can I have some positive thoughts for my boy Drift. He's quite nervy and a panicker, so I hope he won't be too afraid Sad and that they let me take him home tomorrow.

aww, that's great news ! Grin

kblu · 20/11/2011 21:21

Aww, hope he gets well soon, try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know).

My mum's dog ate nearly a whole box of chocolates once that she forgot she left on the coffee table, he stayed overnight at the vets, made to vomit it up etc and was fine. Buggers aren't they?

Wolfiefan · 20/11/2011 21:23

If he's pinging then I'm sure he'll be well. Best not mention it to she whose Christmas cake he ate! Grin

If his blood results are ok I can pick him up this evening. Fingers crossed!

My husky once a a whole lasagna. We found the pyrex dish on the floor, unbroken and licked clean. So far (fingers crossed), new pup hasn't eaten anything silly. Just bought jumbo lockable food store for the cupboard as he was getting very close to figuring out the latch.

misdee · 21/11/2011 14:03

tom and ralph ate a bag of rabbit food.

and a bag of bird seed.

that was not fun to clear up. you cannot pick up bird-seed poo.

bangcrash · 21/11/2011 14:35

Hope all is ok.

Last week mine ate 3 packs of raw liver and all the plastic packaging. They were bought for the dog but should have reached the freezer. Only realised it hadn't as the poo was somewhat plasticy.

Once ate 5kg of chicken at one go and has eaten tons of butter and cheese. And I try to be careful.

hellhasnofury · 21/11/2011 18:06

Any news of his blood tests?

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 18:18

I'm sitting in the vet's waiting room now.... Will update

He's home! I just need to keep an eye on him for a few days; due to the nature of the toxicity it could still develop. But we've done the best for him and given him the best chance. He's fine and happy to be home. Thanks for the support Thanks

oh, well done you guys!!!!!!!

SoupDragon · 21/11/2011 19:22

Glad to hear he's home but please tell me you aren't really going to salvage a cake that's been gnawed at by the dog??!

TheOriginalFAB · 21/11/2011 19:27

I was thinking that too SD but didn't want to seem precious Grin.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2011 19:47

I am just thankful that my SIL doesn't have a dog so I know this isn't her - she makes the cake for family Christmas :o

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 20:03

Well, he basically ate the bottom off the cake - the rest is untouched. I don't think I'm BU - maybe I'll ask the MN jury :o

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 21/11/2011 20:07

You're meant to feed the cake with alcohol, not dog slobber :o

TheOriginalFAB · 21/11/2011 20:09

LOL.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 21/11/2011 20:09

Obviously - it made me gag when you first wrote it, but as the pup was still at the vets I didn't think it was the time to mention it. As much as I've loved all of my cats & dog and I'd share with them... it was a one way street from me to them never vice versa.

Buy a new cake if your Mum doesn't want to make another. Treat the birds to this one.

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 20:13

Come and judge in AIBU Wink

Really glad he's OK!

bumpybecky · 22/11/2011 12:27

glad to hear he's home :)

I think I'd be tempted to cut off the bits next to the chewed bit and ice :) but there's no way I'm posting that on AIBU! Grin

Scuttlebutter · 22/11/2011 12:49

Firstly, glad he's home and getting better.

Am even more impressed that you're an EHO! Personally I wouldn't be too worrried about it, since you can dose the cake with alcohol (which is well known at killing germs Wink).

ObviouslyOblivious · 22/11/2011 14:52

Is it impressive Scuttlebutter? TBH by the time I go back from maternity leave I may have forgotten everything I know :o
