How dog friendly is Montreal?

I'm moving there next year and will be taking my 5 year old Springer. She's an active dog...we live in the countryside now and she is exercised off the lead for the majority of the time. I'm guessing that in Montreal she will have to be on lead exercise in parks, etc but on the weekends is it easy enough to get out of the city for a proper run?

Also, we'll be renting a place initially. From internet searches it seems that a lot of places take animals...but I wonder how true that is?

If anybody has any experience of dogs in Montreal I'd be really grateful to hear about it...

You might get more replies if you try the overseas section, or if you post on a forum for british expats in canada. I expect the dog will have to be on lead except in dog parks, and there is a list of them here.

Montreal expat here. Montreal is very dog friendly. Lots of great spaces to take doggy for nice walks. Look up Mont Royal ( yes , a small mountain in middle of the city) Parc Lafontainte, Maisonneuve and the islands nearby, Notre-Dame, Ste-Helene.

Lots of nice Loft studios/apartments are very welcoming to dogs.PM me if you need info.

Thanks Redwing and Confessions!
I like the sound of the islands and Mont Royal...
