I was driving home from the school run this morning and was held up at traffic lights opposite the entrance to a park. There was a very neglected looking sheepdog outside the entrance gate beside the rubbish bin. Some people passed him and he started barking. They lingered a little looking at him and the dog then entered the park alone. The woman was standing watching him and took out her phone. The lights then changed and I had to drive off. I took a little while to find a place to park, popped into a shop to buy a tin of dogfood and made my way back on foot around 20 minutes later.
He was not with the couple and was dirty, matted and obviously stray. I went into the park to see if I could find him and call the Celia Hammond centre. Couldn't find him anywhere. A man was passing on his bike with two dogs. I asked him if he had seen the stray sheepdog. He launched into a tirade about people leaving food near the gates and somebody being responsible if something happened to his dogs. I stated I had never been in the park before as he seemed to be accusing me of something and asked him again if he had seen sheepdog. He started again about food and said I see you have tin of dog food. He was very loud and very aggressive. Thankfully, there were people out for a walk coming in our direction.
I was very taken aback and muttered a 'how dare you accuse me' and sidled off. He then started shouting after me 'I helped you with your f***g problem..' Park was enormous. It was a woodland. Barely found my way out the other side. Didn't find poor collie and hope nobody with bad intentions gets their hands on him.
I had hoped to couple who had been watching him were phoning rescue, but there was no way that would have been done in time it took me. They were dressed for work and obviously in their way.
City feels kinda ugly and full of jerks at the mo.
