Volunteering - The Cinnamon Trust

I'm about to put my application in to volunteer with the Cinnamon Trust but don't really know what to expect - has anyone else done this and can tell me about their experiences?

Congratulations! It's lovely, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. When you do the application, you'll be asked about what area you can cover and frequency of walks. Please be as honest and realistic as possible about this - much better to under-promise and over-deliver if you see what I mean.

What will then happen is that once you're sorted out with ID etc, you 'll receive further info from the Trust, and they will offer you dog walking that is matched to what you've offered. Obviously sometimes there's a bit of a wait for the appropriate placement. You are under no obligation to accept what's offered if it's not convenient. If you do accept, you can also discuss what frequency of walks you can commit to. For instance I walked for a lady who had two people walking her dog (me and another gentleman) so I did two or three walks a week and he did the same. For another lady, I was the sole walker. There may be a time limit on it (my friend had CT to help when she was going through chemo, for instance) or it may be an ongoing thing.

After that, you make arrangements with the owner about mutually convenient times etc. and away you go.

Thanks Scuttle that all sounds good - it was you talking about it in previous posts that gave me the idea!

Hi, following on from my thread about my elderly cat, I remember the Trust being mentioned. On the website they don't need any volunteers in my area (North Wilts) at the moment. We are quite keen to volunteer so is it worth us applying anyway? Thanks

i dont know if it is worth applying when they dont need volunteers. maybe you could apply and they keep you on their books so to speak

have you thought about applying to www.papas.org.uk ? a great organisation that helps people who are unwell (or experiencing exceptional circs)

Alpha - I did ring last week and they said they are always looking for volunteers - whatever area.
