Why did she wee on my bed????

I have an 8 month old puppy who is pretty much housetrained. We still have the odd accident but that's usually our fault i.e. the other night I took her out at 9.30pm for a wee but she didn't have one, husband was supposed to take her out at 11.00pm but as she was sleeping let her be and of course she did a wee at 2.30 in the morning! Apart from that she has not had an accident indoors since the end of August.

However apart from that she is very good and has never wee'd on anything other than the floor.

Last evening, she wee'd on our bed - it was really weird she had been out for a walk only an hour before and had wee'd twice on the walk. I was in the bathroom with my daugther and I could hear the pup running round like a loon, came out of bathroom to find a huge huge puddle of wee on our bed and wet muddy footprints all over the floor - why on earth did she do this?

Has she been spayed? if not she may be coming into season

No she has not been spayed and has literally just finished her season

I have searched online and come up with allsorts that myself and my husband are completely confused.

1. Jealousy - yes she is totally "my dog" and at the time she did it I was washing, conditioning my daughters hair in the bath and generally having a complete mum/daughter chat/together moment.

2. Stress - Something had changed for her - we can't think of anything that we have done differently.

3. Dominance - For the last three weeks she has slept on my bed BUT she has never ever done anything like this before and she is not a dominant pup - very subservient but what do I know? Since the wee accident we have put her back in her bed in our room instead of letting her sleep on the bed, she seems happy and has definately been a bit more willing for us to take the lead. However with dogs it is so subtle you sometimes don't realise this.

4. Season - she was at the end of her season, why would this affect her wee?

5. Housetraining - people say go back to the beginning but I don't think this is the cause, she is 99% housetrained and can hold on for hours when needed.

6. Infection - no she would have done it more if she had an infection - it was a one off

We need some thoughts people :) :)

No idea i'm afraid, my 11 month old dog did this the other day..i'd like to know why too. He isn't allowed upstairs (can't leave him unsupervised at all as he chews everything he can get his paws on). Ds left the stairgate open, dog sneaked up and peed on my bed....I was not impressed. I'll be interested in the answers!

She thinks she is better than you, higher in the pecking order. Our dog did this when we were all standing in DHs DDs room. Jumped on the bed and wee'd on DDs bed. We were all standing there! She didn't even try to hide it.

I think it's best to avoid bringing dominance theory into this. It's outdated and unfounded, and attributing behavioural issues to dominance can lead to totally inappropriate handling of an already stressed dog.

I'm no expert, but I think you gave the answer when you said she was "99% house trained". This was one of the 1%!

We have an 8 month old too and she hasn't had an accident for at least 4 months. I think that if you are still allowing yours to have the odd accident indoors, as you have admitted, then you are still setting her housetraining back with every incident.

I doubt there is any significance to the bed, other than it being a nice, comfortable ABSORBENT surface for her to wee on.

I would be really trying to nail housetraining over the next 2 weeks if I were you - avoid ALL accidents in the house (put her on a houselead or stop her going upstairs) and take her outside way more often than you think necessary with a really high value treat when she does go outside.

I think this is a housetraining issue rather than anything specifically to do with the bed.

Sometimes they do wee a lot more than you expect them to, especially in the evenings when they are more active.
