Lighthearted - your ideal crossbreed dog?

Most of you will know that I'd never advocate taking on a crossbreed pup from anyone but a rescue, that's not what this is about. :) This is just for fun.

In an ideal world, if buying a crossbreed pup didn't mean buying from a backyard breeder and thus him coming without all the necessary health screens and guarantees of support, what would you dream up?

Another poster has helped me decide mine... a Rottie crossed with something big but fluffy. Perhaps a Rott X Chow? Better still, a Rottie crossed with a Newfoundland. :o

What's yours?

I think a fluffy Staffie would be fantastic. People are put off by their appearance and tough/muscled build - but imagine those endearing eyes and that wide smile looking out from a soft little bundle of fluff...I'd defy anyone to resist :)

Or would it just look odd??

TBG - I'm wildly curious about the novel. What is it? I like books that feature dogs.

Embarrassing confession here - for years "The Well of Loneliness" was one of my favourite books as it has lots of horses and dogs in it, rather than the lesbian stuff. [hblush]

MartyrStewart · 19/10/2011 20:05

I have changed my mind. Can I just have one of These please?

notmeagain · 19/10/2011 20:51

I have the perfect crossbreed 7/8th collie with 1/8th greyhound. Has the collie brain, intelligence, loyalty and the greyhounds love of sleeping upside down on your lap! Up for anything but also knows when it is time to lie with his head on your lap and almost purr.

Fab at agility, canicross and flyball but also the best PAT dog in world (obviously not biased at all Grin) But seeing him in the children's hospice lying on the childrens bed with his head on their shoulder is just the best thing ever.

I won't spoil it and mention his love of fox poo rolling or the absolute desperate essential requirement of coming back from every walk wet and pulling half the bracken into the house still attached to his tail.

Scuttle - it's the Boudica series by Manda Scott, a fictionalisation of the life of Boudica. Lots of hounds and horses with great significance attached to some of them. First book is Dreaming the Eagle but the second, Dreaming the Bull, is the best IMHO, four books in total. A dash of gay and lesbian interaction (non explicit) in there as well. Grin

Do let me know if you ever read them, I'm desperate to fangirl over it.

I just laughed out loud at tobold GSD X Mallie, oh lordy, imagine.

I think you would love my 2 GSDs, they are working line sheps, so straight backed and not slopy at all, cant be doing with that. Smart, funny, loving, can scale an A frame in the blink of an eye...

now a X breed. My DH used to have a dog who was part collie, part corgi cross... We called him the fox as that is what he looked like, but fluffier, much fluffier and in his golden years he was known as 'the table' He was rusty red in colour and hilarious in personality.

My ideal dog would be a GSD X Gt DAne. I cant even imagine what it would look like, but it would be BIG.

I've long been dreaming about a miniature Golden Retriever, sort of crossed with a Westie. All the lovely features of the Golden, feathering, big soft brown eyes, floppy ears and silly soppy temperament. Packaged about the same size as a Westie.
(Eyes 40kg Golden Retriever currently sleeping on sofa)
Mind you, I have a 9 wk old Lakeland/Yorkie girl arriving next week, a very accidental litter that my vet told me about, never seen this cross before but she seems very sweet.

I'd have to agree with notmeagain, though would say a border collie x whippet would be my perfect mix. The intelligence of the collie, the energy of the collie, but all toned down a bit.

saffronwblue · 20/10/2011 07:40

My dog is lab collie cross and I strugle a bit with the keen cunning and high energy of the collie crossed with the food drive of the lab...

spiderlight · 20/10/2011 11:47

I LOVED the Boudica series - fantastic books!

FroOOOOOtshoOOOOOOts · 20/10/2011 11:52

I'd have to have a Cocker spaniel x with a Laboradoodle x Poodle
not for any reason other than I could refer to it as my CockerDoodlePoo!

DogsBeastFiend · 20/10/2011 13:09

I once knew two little GSD X wirehaired Dachshunds. Looked the spitting image of Pippin from the childrens' TV series.

I wonder what a cross between my longhaired white GSD and a Corgi would be like? I LOVE Corgis! :o
