Humping Puppy

Excuse all of the posts lately, but I'm an anxious new owner. Anyway, Jasper (14 week old sprocker) just gleefully humped DS1's leg. Now, obviously much hilarity ensued, but isn't he a bit, um, young for such activities? And is it total bollocks that this is a dominance display? Because it didn't look very dominant. Or proficient, tbh.

Its just play at this age, but obviously it needs to be discouraged :)

Try to avoid the hilarity, just quiet discoraging. All very normal.

Ah, ok then. So another behaviour to ignore

Mine did this - at 8 to 9 weeks with his teddy bear. Then it tailed off. But we've had him "done" now (6 months) so hopefully that little avenue of pleasure is totally closed to him now.

Ours does that to his bed. Are you supposed to stop it. Its the only place he does it and only at night.

Mine used to do that to his pig as a puppy, he grew out of it and we haven't seen any humping since.

Ours has humped since he was a few months old, but only his bed. Now at 14 months he doesn't do it much, about 3 times a week he'll suddenly stop playing, chewing, lounging on settee etc, look preoccupied then head for his bed in the utility room and have a quick hump then come back and carry on with what he was doing. All very civilised, we've never thought of it as a problem.

Girl and boy puppies do this, it is normal.

I hate to say though, laughing will probably encourage said puppy to do it even more. I have always used a firm (not shouty) 'no' and they've usually grown out of it, girl or boy.

My puppy humps her large toy rabbit. She is just over 4 months old! She is very funny.....I gave her a look like this ----> and she stopped! I'm not that bothered really but obviously don't want her to turn into a leg humper!
I guess they just grow out of it?
