actually I'm not sure what it was!

As I tried to gather my thoughts and my spaniel from where i was stood It looked like a mutant longhaired tortoiseshell fox!

It was larger than a cat, smaller than my springer. It did look like a cat. (So much so that I phoned dh to check it wasn't our Persian come out to tease the dogs. )
But it was too big to be a cat and too dark brown and fluffy to be a fox. What could it have been?

a big cat? I mean a big domestic cat, not like a puma or anything, rofl...you get some pretty mahoosive cats

FroOOOOOtshoOOOOOOts · 13/10/2011 10:22

Grin at big cat!

Like the beast of Bodmin but the mutant cat of Cambridgeshire! (I'm actually in Suffolk but that didn't go so well!)

Maine Coon cats are quite large I believe.

cjbk1 · 13/10/2011 16:06

The panshanger puma?

KatharineClifton · 13/10/2011 20:58

A badger in disguise?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2011 21:17

Could have been a ocelot or other medium large foriegn species that got released years ago and has been breeding with local cats.

We have a black leopard near us.

FroOOOOOtshoOOOOOOts · 13/10/2011 23:21

Only just come back to this thread Grin at badger in disguise!

Maybe it was a Maine Coon.
A Scottish Wild cat in Suffolk? Do they come this far, I thought they were tabby.

A panshanger puma? I googled it but it just gave pictures of a football team and it definitely wasn't wearing a football kit.

I think it will forever remain a mystery. But I shall keep my camera at the ready for the next few dog walks just in case!

It was fluffier than an Ocelot but could have been a Persian Ocelot Grin

Definitely a badger in disguise as a Persian Ocelot :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2011 10:28

Badgers have to be in disguise now they know a cull is on the cards.

MummyDoIt · 14/10/2011 10:33

Maine Coon cat, definitely. They are very fluffy and enormous! My in-laws have five and the biggest of theirs is easily as big as a fox.

KatharineClifton · 14/10/2011 11:47

That's right Fluffycloud! I saw one the other day in disguise as my son.

FroOOOOOtshoOOOOOOts · 14/10/2011 12:10

you saw a badger disguised as your son?

Where did it get the costume from?

OP posts:
KatharineClifton · 14/10/2011 12:31

From his bedroom obviously.

(I fear I have started down a path which I cannot keep up so will retire now. It was funny at the time.)
