Blood tests results should also, I believe, enable the vet to medicate further.

brokenwingedflier, god knows it must have been a hard day for you and the night must seem to stretch forever but try to get some rest when you've done whatever needs to be done in the home. Little pooch is in good hands and will be watched over tonight with great care and you must be shattered.

Like everyone I'm willing there to be positive news in the morning. xx

hiccymapops · 14/09/2011 20:38

Fingers and toes still crossed here, I'm feeling for you so much. Like others have said, please try and get some rest, she's being well looked after, and hopefully you'll get good news in the morning xxx

2T2T · 15/09/2011 09:48

Oh I so so hope that all is well for you and yoru puppy brokenwingdflier. Sending massive hugs

She is not dead!

I am posting from the library so I should make more sense. Need a new keyboard at home.

The diagnosis is encephalopathy. I have just had a google and the symptoms certainly fit.

I spoke last night to the vet who had been looking after her all afternoon. He said she is stable but very poorly and we will know the outcome in the next 48 hours. He said there is a 'long way to go'. I can't believe she is still alive. The tone of his voice was more positive than those words sound.

This is what I scribbled down as he talked:
some papillary response (that sounds more than I could have hoped for. I thought that blind meant blind).
little bit more aware (given that she was unconscious with a fading pulse that is also more than I could have hoped for)
almost cocking her head
disordered consciousness - a bit like coming our of a coma.

double vision (that sounds brilliant. But how on earth can they tell?)
central nervous problems
bladder/kidneys OK

'some potential for full recovery'

He is ringing me after one at home. I will post if my erratic keyboard allows.

Thank you for all the support.

And thank you for telling me to go to bed

I don't know how I am feeling. I was absolutely convinced that she would die within hours. I thought she was going to die in the car. I cried so much yesterday. I know that she is still very ill but the fact that they now know exactly what it is is very very reassuring. I just don't want to get too happy in case the one o'clock call is bad news. I am trying to stay neutral and not think too much.

Oh broken, that does sound more positive Smile

Fingers still crossed for you

brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 11:38

I am in grave danger of crying in the library!

ExitPursuedByaBear · 15/09/2011 11:44

Fingers crossed here as well. What breed is she (not that it is relevant).

brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 11:44

Cairn terrier

OP posts:
brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 11:47

I think it is relevant. It says somewhere in what I have read just now that Yorkshire terriers are susceptible. (And a couple of other breeds but I noticed the terrier)

OP posts:
brokenwingedflier · 15/09/2011 11:49

(that might have been Highland terrier, not Yorkshire)

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByaBear · 15/09/2011 12:20

I meant it wasn't relevant to the sadness you are suffering.

TheOriginalFAB · 15/09/2011 12:37

I hope 1 o'clock brings happy news.

I have a cat who is currently ill and I can understand the worry you went through last night.

hiccymapops · 15/09/2011 12:44

Glad to hear she's picking up (if only a little) at least the vet knows what he's dealing with, and the best way to treat her.

Keeping fingers crossed for you, she's very lucky to have such a loving owner xx

bamboobutton · 15/09/2011 12:58
