Do people like your dog, or do you think they just like all dogs, because they are dog people.

We have a lovely doddle, who is finally starting to calm and has a wonderful temperment. Everyone that meets him or cares for him comments on him, how beutiful and lovely he is. I do wonder whether or not its just because they are dog people anyways tbh.
The groomer wanted to keep him longer today and the girls at the stables love him so much I barely see him when I take my girls up.
He is lovely but is a little crazy and very large.

What are your deep and true feelings for your dog? That really is all that matters surely? And what on earth is a 'doddle'?

I've been wondering this recently too. I'm a new recruit to this dog lark, and would rarely have struck up a conversation about someone else's dog before I got one myself. I might have mentally noted if one was cute, but not started a chat about it.

Cue: getting my own puppy and wow! A whole new world. I've met more people in the last 8 weeks than 8 months. Mine is a cockapoo and textbook cute, so everyone oohed and aahed over him. But I assumed that was kind of standard with a puppy. But they still are - until he went in the sea, and came out looking like a drowned rat, whereupon the "isn't he adorable" comments dried up a bit. Until he did.

OK let me set out my stall.

There are puppies bred for looks - or a nice suburban thing coz everyone does. Wow how awesome is that. Look Look on the web! How cute!!

Never ever ever buy a puppy. Especially on the web.

If you want a dog research, talk, and contact your local rescue.

People often dislike dogs for very good reasons. They get understandably pissed off if they are barged, jumped over, slobbered over, have their picnics raided, step in poo, have their DC frightened or even worse get bitten.

As dog owners, all we can do is try to ensure that we are "good neighbours" - pick up poo, worm our dogs, keep them under control, use good dog manners around other dogs, children and people using shared spaces like parks.

I love the way that dogs offer the most wonderful icebreaker for conversations. We've made many friends through our dogs, and I like the way that people will often come over for a chat or to reminisce about dogs in their own life. I am fascinated by other people's dogs - not because they are cute (well, sometimes) but just because they are interesting, beautiful and I love finding out more about them.

Oh God, it's like children isn't it? There's no way you'd look in a pram and say "Fuck me, your baby's a right minger" , you'll coo and say something like "what beautiful eyes" or "hasn't s/he got a lot of hair". People do the same with dogs, well I do. If the dog in question is a slavering hound with a dodgy temper and bloodlust in it's eyes, I might not be quite so effusive.

I saw the most beautiful dog the other day. I talked to the guy as did loads of others. It was a well-trained fluffy snowy white Inuit with the palest blue eyes.
Made me think having a beautiful well behaved dog could be a great way to get a date if you are single.

sorry a doddle is a labradoddle. Weirdly enough I know about 12 dogs by name and spoken to owners but dont know owners name!!

People loved our dachshund to the extent that we factored in extra stopping time on walks. He allowed them to stroke him but paid no attention unless they had sausages or cheese at hand

My dog is pretty young and still quite jumpy so only dog people really like her. MIL does this awful passive aggressive thing of hissing " Yes, yes, you're a lovely dog" while angrily pushing her away.

I think that only dog people like dogs anyway. I don't mind - I just make sure that mine don't annoy guests or people when we're out. Luckily they're pretty chilled and ignore just about everyone - unless there's food. Can't do anything about that - labs are so food orientated. Where I walk there's 2 large grassy areas seperated by a small road that leads to a car park. One side has picnic tables; the other side is wilder, no tables and that's where everybody walks their dogs. But people still picnic on that side and then get arsey when they realise that every dog inthe vicinity has pitched up at their picnic!! [hmmm]
