Getting another dog.

We have been looking at getting another puppy, but our dog is still only a pup at 9 months old. Just wondered what sort of age we should wait til for until we start to properly look for another.

Thanks

I was advised its best to wait until your dog is at least 18mths old so that its fully matured and trained before you get another puppy, that way your current dog may even help train a new puppy by example!

Our elder dog is two and our puppy is 12 weeks. We decided on the pup due to its circumstances and ours being right at the time. Basically Monty took until 18 months to settle down, and we didn't want any new puppy/dog learning bad habits. Grin

Monty and Bobby play well, Bobby has settled in well, and we are really happy with our family as it is now. 2nd pup experience has certainly been easier than the 1st but maybe we are more confident dog owners these days I don't know.

He is quite well trained but does still have moments of completely ignoring us and doing his own thing. But at least that gives us about another 9 months of looking at puppy pictures Grin
