We went on holiday and met a gorgeous greyhound

her pic is on my profile. she was absolutely gorgeous. ds fell in love with her. she was so gentle but very playful too. she run round on the beach with my dogs for about 5 hours!

she was rescued from the pound. she had marks from cigarette burns on her and she has a few bald stripes down her side which vet thinks are likely from being in a cage which was too small for her and she had to rest standing up leaning against the side.

she now has a lovely home. she was so gentle. treated so badly but still had a wonderful temperament. ds has asd and he took to her immediately

Greyhounds are very gentle by nature. The ultimate sofa buddies Grin

Could I interest you in adopting one? Wink

Our current foster has scars too Sad. It's awfull what they put them through.

dooin (its chickchickchicken btw, had problems putting pics on that profile so had to namechange) i am already planning to adopt a greyhound in the future. scuttle has brainwashed persuaded me Grin

terriers are 'my breed' but would love a greyhound in the future. someone posted a link a few days ago of a greyhound and jrt needing a home together. i would have applied for them if i wasnt already full of animals

hows it going with your new foster grey? did you put pics up?

How lovely - the pics look as though you were walking on water (or of course you could have supernatural powers - on MN anything is possible) .

Nice beach too.

scuttle - she was gorgeous. so very gentle and affectionate. the pic was taken on the first day we met her. as soon as she knew we were okay she was very cuddly. my jacks can run for hours and hours almost non stop, it was very funny to see her running with them then stopping for a sit down rest and then running again. every time she sat down i thought she had had enough running and playing for the day and then seemingly from nowhere came another burst of very fast running

re the supernatural powers - my lips are sealed Wink. beach is in west wales, we visit most years as it so beautiful and dogs love it. greyhound lives there

Oh greyhounds are lovely :)

One of our friends/neighbours has just got one, an ex-racer, and he's an absolutely beautiful boy. He seemed a bit lost when he first arrived, was quite withdrawn the first time we met him, I guess it must have all been a bit bewildering and a lot to take in after a life in kennels. But now when we see him he comes up to me, rubs his head against me just like a cat, and then settles against me leaning his weight on me while I give him a cuddle :)

Chick - was it Pembrokeshire? We took ours for a week back in April and it was lovely to have these immense beaches to ourself so hounds could gallop at high speed without bothering anyone. My fave is Freshwater West. Of course we had to watch out for the very rare Pembrokeshire Water Squiggle ( a shore dwelling creature of squirrel like proportions with a fluffy tail, that lives on sea anemones and Mivvi lollipops). Our greyhounds kept a very careful watch for it.

scuttle - yes it was pembrokeshire. we usually go every april too but couldnt go in april this year due to house stuff. we were very lucky to get a cheap late deal for july

i will have a look for the thread the link was on but pretty sure the jrt was called josie. they were lovely and i would definitely rehome if i didnt have 3 already.

They were fantastic. We are in the process of offering a home to Sam, a lurcher at the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust and have been spending a few Saturdays there getting to know Sam and playing with the dogs. We helped give all the dogs a walk on Saturday and I took Duke the grehyound whilst dd took Josie the jrt. They were just the best. Josie seemed a bit scared of dh and kept rolling onto her back for him (submissive?) but dd loved her and was able to cuddle her lots. The Duke was perfect. Soft, gentle, gentlemanly, beautiful and just great...

Love them both, a fab pair.

Ah, may I butt in and ask you lovely greyhound ladies a question?? I would love to rehome a grey - they are absolutely beautiful dogs. I'm a lone parent of 2 dcs (age 5&2) and work 3 days a week as a teacher (so, just term time and would be able to do an after school walk then anyway).

Do you think my set up would be ok for homing a greyhound? I was thinking about waiting another year but they really are just lovely....! Smile

It would depend entirely on the rescue centre and the dog you like... We are (hopefully) getting Sam from the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust. Jane, the (lovely) manager there said she takes each case on its merits and does not have any hard and fast rules.

Fwiw, we have two dc (11 and 8), dh works silly hours, I work term time as a SEN TA (currently 9am - 3pm every day but my hours will be cut from September to three 9am - 3pm days and two 9am - 12noon days). I will come home at lunchtime on my full days. I get a full hour for lunch and school is 5 minutes away.
She is more than happy with that arrangement.

So talk to your local Greyhound rescue. If you are not too far from Guildford then get yourself to Celia Cross. They are fab!

We really wanted a greyhound but it just so happened that when we were at the kennels we fell in love with a little lurcher boy...
But we will get a grey at some point, I am ever hopeful ....

The lovely greyhound's name didn't start with 'A' did it. only that dog looks just like my friend's new dog after they lost their gorgeous other one to cancer. If it was, next time you are down in box me and I'll buy you a tea at the cafe by the beach!

chick I'm in Cumbria so know of the Dumfries and Galloway rescue plus the South Lakes (which I think are connected to the RGT).

Hmm I may have completely forgotten the name of new dog or got it confused with lovely old one, you do look like you are near me in the photo. I'm being cryptic for your sake as I don't care who knows where I live, was the beach initial PS, if not there is another Pembrokeshire beach with an almost exact copy of my friends dog replacing one who died in similar circumstances, but then this is Wales, weird place!

Of course you still get the cup of tea!
