Dog shit: what do you do with it?

We are being ever so good and picking up all of Harley's leavings. But what do you do with the bags? if you are on a walk and manage to fine a poo bin that's easy enough but he tends to do it when he's in the garden anyway. It is OK to put it in the ordinary waste? Do you have your own special poo bin at home?

On a walk I bag it and pop it in my pocket (then really hope the bag doesn't break or leak). If I pass a dog bin I put it in there. Otherwise it comes home with me.

Once home, we have a little compost caddy-type bin in the garden, near the main bins. All bagged poop goes in there and then every now and again, they get emptied into an almost full black bin liner along with normal rubbish, which is then tied up.

The nearest public bin on a walk - whether that's a poo bin or a regular one.

It's exceptionally rare that she'll leave a poo in the garden, but if she does then bag it and drop it in the black wheelie bin.

I have a special little poo bin next to my wheelie bins for bags that I've had to bring home as didn't pass a public bin. This is so they don't sit in the main wheelie bin and stink it out before bin day (I learned this from experience!). I just put them with the main rubbish in the wheelie bin when I am about to push it out to the pavement for collection.

Have used most of these methods - toilet - public bins - wheelie bins. I'm fortunate in having several public bins within 100m of my front door! I did hear of someone who had a dog poo composter, which sounded excellent, but was a bit £££ (and probably not suitable for us as we aren't very good at composting). Have to confess to getting quite cross when there are no bins around and I have to carry it any distance (especially when they put up signs telling you to pick it up or else...), really need to buy a bum bag or similar, I refuse to put the stuff in my coat pocket (unless very exceptional circumstances) and hate having it swinging about, catching on the leads! Actually think I need to get cats instead.

Raw feed so very small barely smelling poos. We compost and it is very effective for our 3 large dogs.

We encourage and train our dogs to do most of the poos in the garden to avoid the need for poobags when out and about

My dogs are raw fed and go once a day, after breakfast, in the garden. It goes in the public poo bin a few minutes walk away.

We've got a little plastic swing bin with a bag in down the side of the garage for our dog poo. We put the full bag in the wheelie bin on bin day
