Greyhound Gorgeousness

After reading so many nice comments about greyhounds I cannot resist any longer showing you mine Grin Pics are on profile. Ben is my dog & Jack is my foster dog who I have had for about three weeks now. Ben is the fourth ex-racer we have had (over 16 years) and we just love him to bits. Jack is such a lovely boy too - he had been a champion but could not race any more & was at four years old dumped Angry

Stunning Dogs tomyum I do love greyhounds. I would love one, but got 2 (young)GSDs and DH wont let me have any more dogs at the moment.

gorgeous, just gorgeous. they look so regal! we have a JRT-westie and he always looks like he has been dragged through a hedge... which to be fair, most days he has.

Gotta love some greyhound action!! Yes, they are so incredibly handsome and completely addictive (looks round at assorted greys sprawling near her feet and sighs contentedly).

I am trying to make a birthday card for my BIL and I keep being mithered for tickles, and have also had to referee in a duvet dispute. Sigh.

Makes me so sad and angry when they are treated so badly, yet are such gentle dogs who give so much.

I'm not a dog owner - but they are sooper delicious looking! So gentle looking too. I'm a tad envious! Tell me, are they good dogs i.e. well behaved....just being nosey!

They're very very very gentle, lazy creatures as a general rule - I haven't met one that's not calm (usually to the point of being horizontal with legs in the air snoring)... the ones I know aren't backwards in asserting their demands though - the one I come across in the park lots prods me with his nose and a very stern look on his face until a treat's forthcoming!

Homechecker for the rescue we're adopting through described them as undercover cats in their sofa-hogging laziness!

Couple of weeks till some failed racers come into the kennels... couple of weeks... couple of weeks (we're now onto the "be a pain in the arse and ring every weekend" approach).

I know lots of greyhounds and most are very placid & calm dogs. Ben is the gentlest dog I have ever met. We take him camping, take him into pubs (our local has his photo in their gallery of regulars) & he is very well behaved although I must admit the first time we went in he put his paws on the bar Grin A few weeks ago we took him to PAH to raise money for Greyhound Rescue & he stood & then lay all day & let everyone pat him. Like most sighthounds I only let him off lead in certain areas with no roads nearby but he does have good recall (with a treat involved) He really loves to run but is very happy with a quick sprint. Greyhounds really are the couch potatoes of the dog world Smile I think if you are getting an ex-racer you just have to remember that they have probably never been in a house before & everything is new to them so you will need to teach some manners but that's the fun part - you should see their faces the first time they look in a mirror lol.

I thought as much - how I would dearly love to have one...or two! I had heard they like to have a 'pal'. Sadly, we are full time workers (pah!)...roll on retirement, which, going on how things are at the moment, will be about 80!

They are both beautiful dogs. The black one looks a bit like the girl I have in at the moment.

Dooin the PAH day was for www.greyhoundrescuenortheast.com which is my local rescue where both of my dogs came from and who we help raise funds for. My foster dog Jack is under Greyhound Boys on that website & Ben is under Rehomed.

emptyshell, whereabouts are you? I have recently found out about a lovely greyhound rescue near Guildford in Surrey. We have been on a few visit, been allowed to walk some of their hounds in their (huge, enclosed) field and even hired a kennel dog to take part in the Great British Greyhound Walk.

We are hoping to adopt a lurcher from them. Went with the idea of adopting a greyhound, fell in love with a pointy eared lurcher boy. Smile

Dooin - the lurcher we are hoping to adopt has a lot of whippet in him. I had followed your lovely posts about 'the whippy one' with interest and even though we wanted to adopt a greyhound, when we saw Sam, and found out he was a whippet based lurcher we just wanted him even more.

Oh my he is a beauty! Whippets and Lurchers are ace. You will be very happy with him. My sis has a Bull Lurcher and he is even more laid back than the Whippy one.

We spent some time with him last Saturday and he was just great. Lovely, cheeky, cuddely and just so so cute. And we just love the ears!!
