Walking puppy?

We've just bought our little girl (JRT 11 weeks) home today. On her first couple of walks today she has been amazing. Really. Walks in between dp and I perfectly, no pulling. Off the lead in the park, came back every time when called. Sitting at every road. We've had no accidents in the house yet, either. Gets on great with other dog.

But, we have a ParsonRT too (Male, 4yo) who likes to go on long walks. We usually take him out for a quick walk in the morning and a longer one later in the day, then he stays in our big garden most of the evening.

New pup cannot walk that far! When on the longer walk I ended up carrying her. I know she is tiny and I don't expect her to be able to work this far, especially with the heat etc.

But, how long should we be walking her? It's been ages since PRT was this little and I cannot remember what we did with him. I don't want to over exercise her.

I think the general recommendation is 5 mins per month, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me if I'm wrong! But you are right, it's important not to over exercise at this early age.

I got a dog bag when I got dogs nos. 2 & 3 (a sensible one that looks more like a black baby sling, not like something a celeb would have!) Dog no. 2 was very happy in it, dog no. 3 was more of a wriggly pest but we managed.

build it up slowly I own a dashund X staffie (George) who loves really long walks and I own an 8 month old yorkie (Oscar). I was quite often carrying Oscar for a while till he was about 4 months old but now he is quite used to walking the 8 miles per day he also gets a little walk to the park after school when ds takes him. This just means he sleeps well at night Xx
