Being Neutered tomorrow - how long to recover ?

Oscar is being neutered tomorrow , I'm very nervous about it tbh .
Not sure what to expect regards recovery . Will he be sickly ? I've bought him a new duvet style bed ( as its very soft) and Dh or I will be sleeping downstairs with him for the first few nights .
Have a lot going on here atm - dd back & forward to A&E with gastroenteritis
so worried about her & pup .
Any advice would be great thanks .

None of my cats or dogs have ever been particularly off colour after being neutered or speyed, groggy that day from the anaesthetic and then worryingly normal the next day - worrying in that, you always think they should be taking it easy and they seem to have other ideas, lol.

ralph had his op on thursday night. i slept on the sofa thurday night with him in his crate, as he was groggy and miserable and wanted company.

by friday morning he was back upto mischeif. so has been back to his usual on-lead walks. in fact he is being so much his usual self aside from the mega huge cone, i almost forgot on saturday and almost let him off lead

They recover quite fast, will probably be quite for the rest of the day and then almost back to normal the next day. I had the cat done a few months ago and by the time i got him home he was jumping over the stair gate and asking for food (like nothing had hapened).

I had my dog spayed at eighteen months. He came back from the vets completely stoned (they asked me to go and collect him a bit earlier, as he was expressing his disdain for surgery through the medium of flatulence), and he lay in his basket for the rest of his night, 'singing' happily to himself like a drunk tramp. I stayed downstairs with him overnight in case there were any adverse reactions, but the morning he was himself again. Didn't even need a cone collar, he was so uninterested in the stitches.

I miss his comedy bollocks more than he does.

Mine were both jumping out of their skins within 24 hours and complying with the vets 10 days of lead only was very difficult. Young dog slipped his collar on day 5 and went off after a deer ending up in a pond. Luckily no harm done but I didn't dare own up to the vet!

Oscar is fine thankfully a bit groggy
got him home at 5.30pm

I hate hearing of other dogs being neutered since Moby died but I know life goes on and Moby was very unlucky to be the 1 in 1000 dog that died.

Hope Oscar forgives you for having his wotsits chopped off

Dh is really feeling sorry for Oscar lol
We took my sisters springer in with oscar this morning so they both got
done together but my sisters dog had a bit of difficulty
with the anesthetic. His blood pressure kept dropping
so that was very worrying but he's ok and got home an hour
after oscar. Just giving him lots of TLC at the moment.
Poor thing looks terrified as to what else we might lob off [ wink]

Glad your sisters springer came through ok. I can't bring myself to get teddy done so he don't need to worry. I have come close to chopping them off myself though when he kept jumping up and biting!

I think thats just a phase teddy is going through.
What made us decide in the end to have oscar done
was we found he was starting to growl a lot at my 12yr old ds
for example if oscar ran off with a shoe & ds tried to get it back
oscar would growl and not back down.

well lets hope he has learned his lesson not to growl, dread to think what you might chop off next

I assume he is back to usual self now?
Its such a shame that Moby didn't survive his operation, but if he did have an underlying health issue such as heart disease or something, then its best he went the way he did rather than when he was at home with us and with the risk of DC witnessing it.

As things work out, Teddy is wonderful and I love him more and more very day. I often wish I could bring Moby back but Teddy is definitely the better family dog for us. He is much calmer and less destructive.
