Just found out my dogs got bone cancer

I did a post last week when I found out my dog Molly had bone cancer, today we were at the vets as she can't walk anymore on her from leg, she can't put her paw down. The vet suggested to amputate the leg to give her a better quality of life. They are not saying amputation will increase her lifespan. Do I put her through this? As anyone been though this? We do have another dog Rossco whos only got 3 legs, he lost his back leg as a puppy in a road accident and as adapted well, we adopted him afterwards.

I don't have first hand experience, but I do know there is a lady with a dog in town that had its leg amputated and we see it regularly. He looks really happy in his little doggy way, but I think if I were you I would want to know how long realistically my dog had left. If it was only a month to six months, would it be fair to put her through the stress of an operation IYSWIM?

I remember meeting a man in the park a few months ago in exactly your position. He had a stunning husky dog, so young too. He had been told that amputation would give his dog 1-2 months extra life.

I think I would opt for pts . I know that healthy dogs adapt well to life on three legs, but I'm not sure how a sick dog would do.

Has your vet given you any guidance on this?

Sorry I did not read your post properly. As your vet is in favour of amputation, do you know how long Molly is predicted to have?

Will know more tomorrow when she as her xray, if it's not spread to the lungs and she as amputation with either radiation or chemo we could be looking at 9-12 months, if it's spread to the lungs and she as chemo 3-6 months, if we do nothing 1-2 months.
We don't know the severity of it yet :(

Apart from the cancer and the limpness in her front leg she's full of life still, still as mad as ever and eating not lethargic or anything, breathing is good too.

I think you need to ask some very hard questions about how likely you are to get these extra 9 -12 months. The jury in the vet world is very much out on whether radiation or chemo are effective at all for bone cancer. Also ask about what the chemo involves so you know how often your dog will be down the vets. I do give dogs chemo, but I always make sure owners really know what is involved and how likely success is to be.

Well she's had her xray and its chondrosacoma not the more dreaded osteosarcoma, it's not spread to any organs or lungs.

I'm so glad that the cancer has not spread to the lungs. Does that mean that you are going to proceed with the op?
