What to say to someone who feeds your puppy a Greggs' sausage roll?

He was off lead and a workman just gave him half of his sausage roll. I was too far away to object while he was doing it, and didn't approach him after as I thought i might just get abuse. Pup is only 12 weeks and was sick later that day. He also went round town thinking that everyone with a Greggs' bag was going to feed him...

I suppose it wouldn't have happened if he'd been on lead, but he needs to have some freedom.

What would you have done? Or am I being too precious?

Well if he was off his lead and you were too far away to say anything I think its just tough luck to be honest. A sausage roll isnt going to kill him is it?

Asinine · 16/06/2011 19:50

I know, at least it wasn't a froot shoot, I suppose Grin

I doubt the sausage roll made him sick, my dogs have eaten all sorts on walks, including bits of dead crabs and mummified looking rabbit legs etc and not been sick.

In future, recall him from people before he can approach them, that way they won't get the opportunity to feed him.

NormanTebbit · 16/06/2011 19:51

What a waste of a Greggs sausage roll

Asinine · 16/06/2011 19:53

Yes, I was distracted by another dog owner so was not quick enough. His recall is improving every day.

I would ask the workman for my bit of sausage roll - to show I am a true mnetter

Scuttlebutter · 16/06/2011 20:17

Sorry, is it just me who giggled at seeing this thread title? How about if it was an organic, free range sausage roll made with wholemeal pastry? Grin

I'm only stirring, really. If it had been an organic liver treat and he'd made him sit first I'd have been over the moonGrin

Yes, any kind of sausage such as sausage tools, hot dogs etc will make your dog sick. It is very bad for them. I didn’t know this and someone fed my dog a sausage roll. She was also sick later that day.

Greenmarmalade · 26/11/2021 12:47

Off lead where? Town?

FlowersFlowersEverywhere · 26/11/2021 12:47

Your 12 week old puppy was off lead?!?!?!?

Mantlemoose · 26/11/2021 12:51

I would have asked where mine was but on another point no dogs should be off lead without perfect recall. Remember these words when you gets bitten by another dog please.

Grumpyosaurus · 26/11/2021 12:52

12 week old puppies absolutely should be off lead or with a trailing longline. They don't tend to go far and want to be near you, so it's the perfect time to start laying down recall.

As for the sausage roll... Chopped up cooked cocktail sausages make excellent high value treats.

Double3xposure · 26/11/2021 12:53

If your puppy is able to read the writing on a paper bag you will be able to make millions out of him.

This is a 10 year old thread. I wonder how the now grown up dog is doing?!

ShirleyPhallus · 26/11/2021 12:54

THIS THREAD IS 10 YEARS OLD

The dog has probably opened its own Greggs franchise by now

Perhaps the OP can come back to assure us there were no long-term effects Grin.

At least it's better than the house guest who fed our adult dog a mince pie on Christmas day. That made for a fun Boxing Day morning clearing up lakes of doggy diarrhoea.

Hellocatshome · 26/11/2021 12:59

You are being unreasonable to have a 12 week old puppy off lead and too far away for you to stop someone feeding him. I bet he enjoyed it tho.

Hellocatshome · 26/11/2021 13:00

Oh just seen this is 10 years old. I wonder how many people the dog has mugged for their sausage rolls by now?

12 years ago....But have just googled ''Sausage roll made dog sick'' and this came up {no pun intended}
My Whippet was fed sausage rolls at a Christmas party- and 7 hrs later has just done a couple of 'solid' looking sicks.

Hope she'll be ok.

Edit ...Hope OP's dog is ok..He will be 12 now.
