This is his first ever show and I only took him on a spur of the moment. It was peeing down all day, we were all soaked but still had a great day and raised lots of money for charity.

I am so proud, to think only a few short months ago he was at deaths door!

I cant believe he got 3rd in a proper pedigree class. I was so pleased. Had a grin like a Cheshire cat. I wasnt handling him as my back is gone, my friend (who knows a zillion times more than me about showing) took him round the ring.
I can walk him, but cant trot/run as it kills me at the moment.

i really wantto take mypooch to somethinglike this. But how do you find out about them? They are never well advertised and i only ever hear about them the day after the event

Well I am a member of a GSD club, so we hear about them via our website/fb or on rescue websites.

What sort of dog do you have? Where in the country are you?

There are loads of open shows on at the moment.

I have just started doing it for fun. Not taking it too seriously, although obviously I make sure my dog looks his best. I wont be able to go anywhere with it as he has been neutered and is a dark sable coat but its all for a good cause and he loves it. Also very good for socialising.

I have a bonkers Patterdale Terrier and we are in the North West (Lancashire) I only want to do it for a it of fun, with his breed he is nether predigree or a mut, but it's more than chance to go and see some other dogs n a bit of friendly competition

we have lots of fun dog shows on at the moment in glos. if you check your local paper they are usually advertised there. also check websites of local dog rescues as they often have a yearly dog show to raise funds

DH entered our oldest girl in a charity dog show once before we started 'proper' showing. She wouldn't stand for the judge, but instead preferred to roll over on her back for her tummy to be rubbed! DH had entered her for 'prettiest bitch' and spent the time waiting saying loudly she was bound to win. Oh the shame!!! She did win, bless her, but you'd honestly have thought she won Crufts the way DH was going on. He's still got the rosette proudly displayed years later in the kitchen and insists that as it was the 'Dorset Charity Horse/Dog Show', she must therefore be the prettiest bitch in all of Dorset...

Oh we are entering the Whippy one into a charity dog show soon, I'll be like your DH Midori, waiting in the queue insisting she will win, which of course she will

about 2 months after we rehomed our collie x we went back to a dog show at the rescue he came from. we won first place in 'dog the judge would most like to take home'. i was beaming . this was a big dog show at the dogs trust with two judges 'an all and nowt to do with sympathy vote as he was recovering from a leg operation and had metal pins in his leg

well although this was a charity show he was entered in proper GSD classes as well as novelty.

I am chuffed he got 3rd. It was a stiff competition. Luckily the judge liked german lines& sables and the second judge in the other ring adored sables and thought his 'painted toes' were to die for!

My friend also took him round our display team Agility ring to see if he liked it! He bloody loved it. He was over the A frame like it was nothing and weaved like a pro!

I am ashamed to say I took one of our greyhounds, (the newest one, the old boy) to a charity show last year, run by a local greyhound charity. He won the Best Veteran class and they called us back in for a Best Novelty type thing, which he then also won, getting himself a huge trophy, a special coat, a bag of dog biscuits, and a ginormous rosette. Completely overcome by emotion, I then made an absolute idiot of myself by crying . DH was ringside pretending I was nothing to do with him.

I have now got over this by the cunning ruse of employing middle nephew (aged 9) who's formed a particularly close bond with the dog, to have fun doing classes at local shows. This worked brilliantly until they won a Fancy Dress costume class where I'd spent hours making a costume for the dog (sewing on bells by hand at 2 in the morning) where I promptly cried again, thus embarrassing DH and DN. I am such a wuss.

The next thing is that a fellow rescue friend has invited me to be a judge at a charity show, which is great. Just hope I can keep it together for the "Best Rescue" class which is always full of gorgeous dogs with heart rending stories. The odd thing is I am completely fine when dogs need attention/nursing/recovery - I am super organised. Show me a happy, recovered dog now living in a lovely forever home and I fall to bits.

Aw Scuttle, yesterday a lady won with a labrador - she burst into tears, the judge started crying, the photographer had tears in her eyes.

I was under the gazebo and could only see bits of this had no idea what was going on! Until I was in a class with her lab and she won again - and she started crying again. It was happy tears, some of the stories are heart wrenching.
