My dog has been well socialised from day 1. She has always been great with other dogs, although quite submissive with large dogs (she is a bichon frise x cavalier). However, I'd say in the last 2 months, she has been getting less and less confident with larger dogs. She won't move once she sees one (sits down) and waits until they have gone past her before she races after me. If she knows them, she is fine, it just seems to be with ones she doesn't know.
I just want to know how I should react when she is off the lead and she does her 'sitting down' thing when she sees another dog coming towards her. At the moment I carry on walking and try to call her to me. Sometimes I chat to the owner and make a fuss of their dog in the hope that my dog will think that the dog is ok! Any ideas anyone? I don't want it to escalate into more fearful behaviour and wonder if I am doing anything wrong?
