Devil Dogs newest trick - peeing in the kitchen again.

He used to pee anywhere, just because he could. He used to pee in his bed, because he didn't like being left there alone. We solved this.

Now we have Whippy and have managed to find a food he likes.

He has to be fed in the kitchen with both doors shut. The cat is fed in the bathroom. Whippy in the dining room in her crate. If Devil Dog is not locked in the kitchen he steals the cats food and attempts to break into Whippy's crate to get her food. He'll eat in his own crate, but will escape immediately afterwards and go and bother the other pets.

As soon as he has finished eating his pisses up the kitchen cuboards.

Why? Why does he do this? If it is seperation anxiety why not just cry/bark and someone will let him in. He has learnt that crying/barking = being allowed back into the house/family room. It's not because he just needs a wee. He is let out for a wee while I get his supper ready. There are no health issues. He's only left out there for 5-10 minutes.

I know how to stop this behaviour. I'm going to start feeding him in the family room where I can see him. I'm just wondering why he is doing this.

maybe it's anxiety? Asserting his dominance over the other pets?

DooinMeCleanin · 17/05/2011 15:12

No I don't think it's dominance. He has no intentions of being 'pack leader' or being invloved in any kind of pack in anyway. He is a grumpy, old loner who does not like being sociable with anyone but me Grin

He doesn't particularly like the cat and Whippy, he just puts up with them because he has to. Allowing them to sit within spitting distance of him means he gets chicken. Chicken and cheese are a very important part of Devil Dogs life.

Feed him outside.
I have two dogs they eat together, outside. I put their food bowls down, make them sit, then we wait until al the wriggling and back chat is done, then I tell them to take their food. As soon as they are done their habits are to have a drink then immediately a wee and poo. Perhaps you just need to recondition him?

DooinMeCleanin · 17/05/2011 16:59

I couldn't make him go outside to eat. I am too soft. What if it was raining or cold? Blush He might be a pain in the arse, but he is my baby pain in the arse Grin

He can eat in the living room. He has never liked being shut in somewhere, so I am sure it is something to do with this. Perhaps I need to start building his confidence/tolernce of being shut into a room on his own?

my old dog used to poo on the back door mat outside the back door as a protest at being made to go out in the garden in the rain. dogs do annoying things with the whole wee/poo dont they?
