Picking up poop with morning sickness

RunnerHasbeen · 22/04/2011 10:19

I'm really struggling to pick up after my dog just now, while I seem to constantly be borderline sick - has anyone got any tips on how to deal with this? I am considering taking scented disposable clothes (these are currently imaginary as I don't know where I would get them) to put on top of poo when I pick it up or some sort of Vicks nose thing. I wish I could buy some of the stuff you see people putting under their noses in the pathology part of some TV shows. I have always picked up after him and it doesn't normally bother me at all.

So far DH has been working from home and doing the walks, but today it is up to me and I'm already dreading it. I don't have the kind of dog that can go on demand in the garden or anything, if anything he tries to go on every walk (perhaps as a hang up from ex rescue/ neglected).

You can buy scented bags to put sanpro in, would these be big enough?

Squeeze a fresh lemon onto your hand or some tissue and smell it just before you pick up?

Pay someone else to take him? Grin

The lemon is a good idea, thank you (as is paying someone else - Grin I wish!), I will be dampening a hanky pre-walk! I did buy some scented dog bags but they aren't cutting it. I really don't think I can bring myself to buy bags that are re-usable/washable though (I looked up sanpro website so might have wrong end of stick, but it isn't a stick I think I can afford to give any more thought to right now)! Thank you for your help though, even knowing I have a lemon-y tissue makes me happier going out on walk.

There is a wee boy across the road who walked him last summer (sort of proving he would walk a dog if he was allowed one), he gave up come winter but I am thinking about spying on the house so I can "bump into him" and maybe start that up again.

Pets At Home have a long-armed poop scooper. Cost £10, pretty sturdy, best I've seen for a long while and people I know recommend them highly (must get to the store and buy one myself). IIRC you can put a bag over the grabber so that poo is collected in that and of course it's at arm's length so not a case of you needing to bend down or to get close to anything unpleasant.

Deep breath, close mouth, breathe through nose if absolutely necessary and down ,scoop and up as quick as you can. I used scented nappy bags and tissues.

I would say breathe through mouth and NOT nose! Works for me!

CliniqueMum · 23/04/2011 18:45

Even when not pregnant I hold my breath. Can't imagine anyone wouldn't!

a friend has the long armed poop scooper from pets at home and she says it is very good

alternatively use a tissue sprinkled with essential oil (ages since i was pregnant but i think there are certain oils not recommend when pregnant). you can also get those pocket tissues with olbas oil already on them
