Cutting the dog's nails

It seems like our lab needs his nails trimming, he clicks around the house and they touch the floor. I presume they were long before we got him (he is a rescue, had him for 6 weeks) but even now he's with us I think it will be an ongoing issue as his walks virtually never take him on the pavement. Just wondering if anyone trims their dog's nails themselves when they can't see the quick? Have booked him in at pets at home this time but can't really be bothered with the effort/cost on a regular basis if it's something I can do myself?

I cut my 7 month lab's nails with a nail trimmer from PAH. Can't see the quick clearly so only take a little bit off. Pup's used to it now and waits patiently for the cheese treat.

I have to trim my girls small amounts 2 x a week, their nails grow so fast
It is a knack and get a groomer or vet nurse to show you and do it in small slivers only, it is dead easy once you get the hang of it
