Beautiful greyhound put to sleep

Just wanted to write it down. My Mums dear old rescue greyhound has had to be put to sleep. She was at vets having an x ray and they found she had extensive bone cancer. Poor mum drove down to be with her as they put her to sleep. A wonderful character and will be much missed

So, so sorry coccyx. I can only say that I know the pain of the sudden loss of a much-loved dog and my heart goes out to your Mum and to you.

So sorry to read this. Hope your mum is OK.

So sorry. Been through this so many times.

Your mother shouldn't wait too long. With dogs, no matter how you love them, there's something to be said for finding another friend. You never ever forget or stop missing the dog who's died, but there's still a lot of doggy joy to be had!

KD0706 · 09/04/2011 20:31

Really sorry to hear that. I'm sure the dog had a wonderful life with your mum.

I always think that with rescue dogs every day you have them is a bonus they wouldn't have otherwise had.

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/04/2011 20:36

I am so sorry to hear this coccyx. We had to have our beloved dog suddenly put to sleep after an accident - heartbreaking for all concerned. The one year anniversary is coming up and I still cannot think of my dog without welling up.
Ds (age 11) this morning said how much he misses the dog.

Would dearly love another dog, preferably a rescue greyhound but I work 9-3 term time only. So I can't see us being allowed one. But my heart aches for another dog.

Thinking of your mum and I hope she won't have space on her bed for too long!!

I am so sorry to hear about this.

Our lab Jake was put to sleep two years ago and our daughter still sleeps with his dog tag in her bed.

so sorry to read this. Been there myself and it is such a sad time for everyone.

I lasted almost 3 weeks without a dog and couldnt stand it any longer. Fate intervened and we got our next GSD and now have another. (Glutton for punishment)

Thinking of you and your Mum.

MotherJack · 10/04/2011 19:40

Ohhh, I lasted 3 weeks too, Jax. I fostered, as a half step and fell in love with her the moment I clapped eyes on her barging up my garden path.

I am so sorry, Coccyx and hope your mum is finding her feet again. I started the day getting my old boy ready for his walk one Friday morning last September and instead he died in my arms just after lunch. It is such a horrible shock and the silence left by the seemingly most quiet of dogs can be deafening.

I still have the single biscuit left in his bowl in a tiny self seal bag on my notice board.

Sorry to hear that coccyx. They are such beautiful loving and loyal dogs and I'm so sure they appreciate and return the love and care they're given.
