Pancreatitis in dog

Parent's dog is in the vet and they have said they are treating her for pancreatitis (they are not 100% sure what is wrong) she seemed fine over the weekend, was out on a walk on Tuesday and she was being sick, by Wednesday morning she was still illl not eating and throwing up bile so went to the vet. They said she had a high temperature, piles and problem with kidney count. Did various blood tests still no diagnosis. This morning better kidney count but still high temperature so she can't come home. She is a flat coat retriever 6yrs old. She is in the best place but we're all very upset and worried. Anyone have any experience or advice?

I don't know anything about dogs but one of our cats had what sounds like the same thing about 10 years ago - they thought it was def a pancreatic problem but like your dog they couldn't be quite sure what was wrong and he was very ill, vomiting bile etc. He was put on antibiotics etc and as a last resort the vet gave us a prescription for a human gall bladder drug - sorry I don't remember what it was and we gave it to him when we took him home over the weekend. They were shocked when we returned on the Monday with a cured cat as they thought he was a goner. The vet was really pleased as she'd never tried the human drug before.
I'm sorry this is so vague - I hope your dog gets better soon.

thank you. I'll get my parents to mention the gal bladder drug to the vet and see what she says.. It's just so upsetting when a pet is ill isn't it? - especially when you have to leave them at the vet although it's for the best it's really sad and confusing for them that they have to be left as you can't explain

I wouldn't worry too much about the dog at the vets she is probably feeling poorly and will be sleeping most of the time. It is the best place for her - I remember being totally freaked out when they sent the cat home with me in case he died at home. It takes a while to get rid of pancreatitis in humans so I assume animals are the same. Our cat was on antibiotics for ages.

She now has DIC it's not looking good. am devastated can't believe it she seemed absolutely fine a week ago (although apparently she would actually have been ill for a while) any advice or hopeful outcomes very much appreciated

Thank you. It's looking up a bit.. they have got a feeding tube in her and the DIC is only on her tongue so now they are able to get food into her she should be ok. Fingers crossed! They have mentioned she could be home this week (yay)
So now just need advice about caring for a dog with a feeding tube through the throat with another dog in the house!
