Reasonable amount for training class?

Found a puppy training class which is £60 for six one hour long sessions. The bloke that runs it has some amazing reviews and I feel Bruno will benefit from doing his training away from crazy children distractions.

£10 per lesson is slightly above average i would say. how many in class? if small classes probably worth it. or if class nearby or has such a good rep then probably worth it too
i have paid £5 - £6 but i think that was for 50 mins per lesson

£60 for six lesson course where we go. Maximum of 6 in a class.

Money well spent Smile

The limit in each class is 7, but looking at the photos of the last traning course he done it doesnt get that busy.
He's a dog whisperer and everyone says hes fantastic in his guestbook.

wow 6 or 7 in class is very good. i would pay £60 for that. we had about 10 in one class. another one i tried, didnt go back as trainer was fond of squirting the dogs, had over 20!

BornThisWayBaby · 19/03/2011 21:35

thank you, I have emailed him the course starts on 29th april Smile he's got his 2nd vaccination on tuesday so he'll be ready to go!

I'm automatically suspicious of anyone who markets themselves as a "Whisperer" or "Listener". What sort of methods does he use? Is he a certified trainer/behaviourist?

musicposy · 20/03/2011 17:02

We paid £40 for 8 lessons, maximum of 8 in the class but in pratice there were less. The class was fantastic! Only 45 mins, though, but to be honest, Poppy was exhausted after that long!

Hope it goes well.

I paid £120 for 6 lessons. Group of 6 pups, 1 hour per class

Borhtiswaybaby I would never ever ever go to this trainer. Anyone that talks abut pack theory is one to be avoided in my eyes.

I've been reading his page so really out of date ideas and values here to be avoided at all costs.

Apart from the pack leader issues he is advocating puppy "breaking" using puppy pads.

midori1999 · 22/03/2011 10:55

Crikey! I would go so far as to say the website is quite scary! Goodness only knows what damage someone like that can do to a puppy! Seperation anxiety caused by not being the pack leader?! Really?! Have I just been ejected to the dog training dark ages?! Shock He doesn't appear to have any formal qualifications either.

OP please, please look for another training class ran by an accredited trainer/behaviourist. Try looking on www.apdt.co.uk

Here

www.apdt.co.uk/trainers_area.asp?area=Northamptonshire

If you click on some of the website links the trainers have on there, you'll get more of an idea of what you should be looking for. Smile

Just the fact that he keeps going on about "his guarded puppy secrets" gets up my nose!

It isnt a secret!

nah OP, check out APDT website or have a look in your Vets, they usually have a list of APDT trainers locally.

Although £60 for 6 x 1hr lessons is fine I think.

BornThisWayBaby · 22/03/2011 13:17

Crikey! Glad I posted it now! I'm taking it APDT is a well known association? I dont have my own transport as these classes seem to be out in the rural areas. There is one on the APDT website that I could get to am going to give them a ring later!
Thanks everyone.
