How big/small do I make his crate?

Just put together an extra large 48 ins dog crate (with fleece liner and waterproof cover with 'windows'! - I could live in this myself!) for my puppy Rollo - who will come to us on Sunday.

I've got to decide where within the crate I put the crate divider - which will make the massive den small enough for our golden retriever 7 week old puppy but can then be moved to increase the size - up to full adult size.

I have no idea at all where to put this divider thing! How much room will a 7 week old goldie need, to allow him to turn around and lie down but not enough room to use part as a separate toilet?

I've currently put it just under halfway along the length - so that would give him about 24 ins by 30 ins (and a height of 33 ins) to have as a bed/ den. Is that too big/ too small/just right??

Sounds about right but you'll know more when he's been in it - it's difficult to imagine him in there until he's in there, really :D

We didn't use a crate divider with our lab (42" crate) and he never soiled the crate. He did look a bit lost in there on his own to start with, though! You will be surprised how quickly they grow to fill beds, crates etc.

my 14 week old lab is in a 30" crate at the moment and has been in it since i got her. After we move im gonna buy her a 42" crate but at the moment it really is the perfect size for her. She has been fantastic to house train and nobody seems to believe me when i say she has NEVER had an accident in the house. Her crate has been a total god send to us
