Rescue Dog/ Insurance claim

Ddog had a knee operation last month, and the vet took his insurance details and sent them off. The insurance company (I am not in the UK) want his veterinary history prior to me owning him - he is a rescue dog so I don't have access to this. Any suggestions? Having gone through the fine print I think they are probably covered by terms and conditions, but should not cover rescue animals.

Goodness, there's a new one to ponder. Never come across this before.

Is the rescue also in the country you live in? Logic suggests you might need to approach them directly.

Yes - they are about 30 miles away, but in the middle of mountains with dodgy mobile phone! I have emailed them (I sponsor a kennel monthly there Smile). They are a registered charity, so should have records. I have rung the vet they usually use to see if they would have a record of a checkup. I am in Ireland, but the insurance company is a subsidiary of a UK insurer - so I am trying to find out if this is usual!

Wow! Rescue in the Irish mountains... my idea of heaven! Must be hell in winter though. :(

It's possible that the rescue's vet will have to get their permission before divulging any information anyway (UK Data Protection law applies over here) so it may be that you'll need to reach the rescue somehow.

I'll ask my ds about data protection, interesting point! I wonder what happens if you pick up a stray and keep him, or you get adopted by a cat? The rescue place is great, they do a lot of work with greyhounds (far too many greys...). We were supposed to get a greyhound, dd2 was with us and decided we need a dog who is like a cross between a teddy and a kangaroo, a shetland/whippet is our closest guess.
