Is there a difference in energy amounts?
Or any other difference between the two types, I know they are physically different but I wondered what other differences there are?

I would imagine that the Field bred ones have more energy and need to do more.

I have a Field/Working Lab and he does have loads of energy, and gets overexcited easily Grin

I have a show lab - he is far slower than his working pals and runs out of puff quicker, he is always the first to lie down for a break.

we have one of each Grin
our bitch (show) is definitely slower than the dog (working), but she is the more excitable of the two. he's a bit of a wuss really - anything more than a gentle game and he gets very worried. he can run for miles though, whereas she is happy with a trot round the block and walks right under your feet if you go any distance. happy to go with you, but would really rather be at home. Grin

not sure how much is to do with show/ field, or gender, or colour really... or just general personality. the show dog will give a warning bark if she hears an odd noise as well, whereas himself will take to his bed and look concerned.

Generally show bred lines in all breeds will be calmer and less driven than working bred dogs. There is always the exception to the rule though and some lines (whether show or working) have a tendancy to produce either calmer or more excitable dogs compared to others of the same type.
