my old boy lives with my dad. until christmas time he had my old girl for company but she passed away and he has been a lonely lad ever since so i have been gradually introducing WB to him. so monday was the first time i took them out for a walk together, over my dad's own ground. old boy has a reliable recall but WB doesn't so he remained on the lead. all was fine old boy trotted along beside us and was happy to move away from me to go an sniff around and have a pee etc. when we got back down into the yard i took them over for a drink and took WB's lead off. he had a trot about, sniffing, peeing etc but when he tried to ome over and lie beside me, old boy ran straight over and started circling round my legs and panicing a bit jumping up towards me and whimpering a bit. WB took the hint and moved away and lay down. when old boy walked away fro a drink again, WB got up and came closer to me and old boy raced back and barked at him, chasing him away and then wouldn't move from round my legs. should i take this as a hint that they wont be friends or should i persevere with the meetings?

I expect Minimu can give better advice, but from my point of view, there isn't actually any problem between the dogs as such, so I would keep up with the meetings.

I would just make sure you don't inadvertantly reward your old boy for his behaviour by talking to him/giving him attention when he does this.

i was turning away from him everytime he jumped and completely ignoring the circling and whimpering. i was talking across to WB and praising him for sitting down calmly.
