Not appropriate to say on t'other thread but I just wanted to say how deeply impressed and hugely amused I was to hear that you had socialised your puppy at a a civil war re-enactment.

You win the prize of most conscientious puppy socialiser.

Brilliant.

You probably got people in funny hats and men with beards checked off multiple times as well.

I thought I'd done well socialising my dogs with a pet ferret and preventing them from chasing the rabbits, deer and pheasants which share our walks but Hatwoman really is impressive!

Grin

i thought i had done well on socialising too but never thought of civil war re-enactment!

btw wish OP had come back

Vallhala · 21/02/2011 23:17

I'm rather glad she didn't, chick.

I might have stopped being polite and going gently on her...

chickchickchicken · 21/02/2011 23:27

haha

i tried hard to be patient but was depressingly familiar

Slubber · 22/02/2011 09:27

I thought I'd done a good job with socialising too but this was a SUPREME effort from hatwoman.

You just never know when a Roundhead might suddenly appear at the door scaring the bejeesus out of your dog.

Well i don't know what thread you are talking about but my puppy was socialised in a building site renovation project! We had been on breeders waiting list for 18months and the litter became available when we 3 months into a 6 month renovation, unfortunate but it was ok and pupp got to see lots of people and sounds!

He isstill petrified of the hoover though!

I understand how feeble that sounds compared to hatwomens re-enactment but hey ho Grin.

Slubber · 22/02/2011 09:54

morethanyoubargainfor we did socialisation in a building site renovation project too! Was excellent for loud banging noises, wheelbarrows, men in hats and and course sweary language Grin

morethanyoubargainfor · 22/02/2011 10:13

Not so good for crate training though, i would pop out to shop and put pup in crate to come back 10 minutes later to find pup covered in dust playing ball with the builders Grin. apparently they couldn't watch him in the 'cage'.

Slubber · 22/02/2011 10:22

OMG I think we may have had the same builders! The same would happen here too, in fact I suspect my dog may have developed a pavlovian response to cigarette smoke, I'm sure when she smells it now she starts salivating as she has linked it to receiving covert hob nobs and sandwich crusts.

morethanyoubargainfor · 22/02/2011 10:56

OMG i thin you might be right! apart from i am sure ours snuck in the odd dog biscuit as well!
