Am I kidding myself

We have a puppy half JRT/some terrier (maybe border maybe cairn?).

We got him aged 12 weeks on 11 Dec and he is an angel. A few toilet accidents to begin with, a bit of "puppy mouthing". But he is so sweet. If he "puppy mouths" we just a little firmly say "no, only kisses" then he licks.

My ex-DH popped round and said "down!" a bit bloke-ishly, not horribly, and the puppy pissed himself with fright, 3 times.

We give him a big walk about 5 or 6 days a week and at least a small one on the other day/s.

He sleeps with one or other of my DSs (11 and 20) and is so good. He doesn't pee all night long.

He kips a lot and when I come in from work he wags his whole self (not just his tail) and has some "Mummy love" when I stroke him and tell him what a good and big boy he is.

Then he either sleeps on someone's lap or buggers off and sleeps on his own by the radaitor. He watches birds out of the window and barks if someone puts a pizza thing through the door but we just tell him to shut up and he does.

He is so sweet and lovely that I am wondering if I am kidding myself. He is my first dog and he is 5.5 months old. We do "baby" him a bit and rock him and sing to him, but he seems to love it and rolls onto his back to get his belly stroked.

I can put my hand in his mouth and he never bites at all.

Is this the calm before the storm?

He is so wonderful that I am kind of thinking about getting him a pal but do not want to rock the boat and risk getting a dog that I don't like as much.

We had a puppy very much like yours and now at nearly 4 years old she is still fantastic.

I think it would be better to wait until your puppy is about 2 years old before you get another. Also do expect a more tricky doggy adolescent stage ! Grin
