Neutering too early?

We have a 5 month old Lhasa Apso who is beginning to get REALLY excited when playing with his teddies. He also has been cocking his leg and marking for about 3 weeks now. Is it too early to get him neutered?
What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Humping is pretty normal puppy behaviour for both boys and girls. It is a behavioural problem and neutering will not necessarily stop it happening. For that reason I would opt for discouraging the humping by teaching him a good 'leave' command and then using it when he is humping.

Our 'puppy' is a bit over a year old now, still un-neutered (for behavioural reasons, he's nervous and I don't want to make it worse) and doesn't hump anything really, including our bitches. He does occasionally hump the girls in play, but certainly no more than they would hump each other and it certainly isn't a problem.

Thanks for your reply.

He isn't just humping, he's getting very very aroused!
Dc's were horrified. This is not something I want happening On a regular basis!

Any tips to help with this.

find out if any animal rescue shelters near you have a vet attached to them.

we rung one near us and i felt we got great advice on the best time to neuter. also, when the op did take place all the money went to the shelter as the vets take it in turns to donate their time to the shelter. follow up care was excellent too. its a fully functioning vets with a rota of vets so is as safe as any other practice.

this shelter is about 8 miles away so we still go to our local vet for most things but for a one-off operation would definitely recommend the above.

i cant remember exactly but i think our pup was about 6mths when he was neutered. i do have an awful sense of times so he could have been a bit older!
